Ohio Valley Sprint Car Association Releases Schedule

By Scott Wolfe

STEWART, OHIO-The newly formed Ohio Valley Sprint Car Association (OVSCA), a 410 winged sprint car series based in Stewart, Ohio and sponsored by Hoosier Tire/ Hoosier Tire Ohio Valley among other fine sponsors, has released its inaugural 35-race 2010 racing schedule. Other races are in the negotiation stage, including the possibility of a big three-race weekend.

The hub of the series will be Billy Jarrell's Skyline Speedway, a 3/8 mile red-clay oval between Athens and Coolville, Ohio where much of the Friday night racing action will take place. Twenty-four of the series events are scheduled at the Skyline oval.

Said series mastermind Billy Jarrell, "Putting things in place to make this series a first class venture has been hectic, but everyone involved is very excited. The potential is there for this series to become something really big in the future. Getting sponsorship in place has been crucial in getting this endeavor off the ground and everything is now a go for 2010. I am looking forward to a great season."

"I would like to thank the tracks for coming aboard and giving our racers someplace to race. Being able to have two-night racing weekends has made this financially attractive to our drivers and teams. Besides steady purses, the point money is a driving force in our ability to get top notch teams. Interest has been overwhelming. I can't wait to get the season underway."

Beckley Motor Speedway has two Friday night races paying $2,500 to win, while Saturday night venues include Ohio Valley Speedway in Lubeck, WV with six dates, Tyler County Speedway in Middlebourne, WV, and I-77 Motorsports Park in Fairplane, WV. Negotiations are taking place to add future dates.

Ten two-race weekends have made the series appealing for the traveling sprint car drivers. Additionally, sponsors are being touted to bolster the already attractive point fund.

$15,000 has been raised for the series point fund and sprint track champions at Skyline Speedway will enjoy awards typical of those in the past in addition to the series point fund payout. Details of the points and other series policy will be available on the OVSCA website which is under construction at << http://www.ovsprintcars.com/ >> . Hoosier Tire Ohio Valley racetire product manager Todd Frye said. "It's a huge undertaking but one the industry, promoters and racers are glad to see. In comes down to racing on a competitive tire, product reliability, and safety for the competitors. Many teams and drivers recognize the many years of support and loyalty Hoosier has given the sprint cars and wanted to be able to continue their involvement."
Skyline Speedway owner and Sprint Car team owner Billy Jarrell said, "As a car owner I wanted to go a different route. Many drivers and team owners have expressed the same to me.
