410 SPRINTS TO BATTLE AT RACEWAY 7 FOR FIRST TIME SINCE 2003
410 SPRINTS TO BATTLE AT RACEWAY 7 FOR FIRST TIME SINCE 2003
by Jim Balentine
For the first time since Gary Kreiss Jr. won the York Sprint feature on September 5th 2003, the alcohol burning mud slinging 410 SPRINT CARS will return to RACEWAY 7 as part of the OPEN WHEEL SHOOTOUT on FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 25th 2009. The event will pay $2,000 to win with $150 to start and all non qualifiers will get $100 tow money.
Also on the card will be the return of the DAVE BLANEY founded LIMITED SPRINT division which races weekly at SHARON SPEEDWAY and specials at surrounding tracks. The always exciting EMODS will compete in a $1,000 to win show along with the MINI STOCKS and ENDURO STOCKS. All three will be point events.
"We have been trying to get the 410 SPRINTS back up to 7 for many years", says track announcer Jim Balentine, and with big events that Friday at McKean County and also MERCER we thought it was the perfect time to do this. Plus since ATTICA is done , and LERNERVILLE has a show in October it will be a perfect opportunity to show the Northern Ohio/ NW Pa crowd what 410 Sprint car racing is all about. TROY PRESTON set the all time track record in 2003 with a lap of 15.468 which is 2 mph faster than the SUPER LATE record..so they do fly around the place pretty well."
The LIMITED SPRINTS now in their sixth year of competition were founded by DAVE and DALE BLANEY as a cost effective way for someone to get into the driver's seat and not spend alot of money. The class run a spec motor and right rear spec tire and smaller spec wings and their big brothers."the competiton is real close in this division", says Balentine, " they are only 2 seconds slower than the 410s ..but the field rarely gets spread out and very few times are cars lapped....plus there have been over six different winners at Sharon alone this year...and that makes for exciting racing." Guy Griffin and Rob Felix piked up the last two races last year. The LIMITED SPRINT track record is 17.994 set by Eric Williams in 2007 wich is almost the same track record for the EMOD division.
Probable entires for the 410 Sprint event include MERCER and LERNERVILLE track champ Rod George, SHARON champ JACK SODEMAN JR., all time LERNERVILLE and SHARON SPRINT winner ED LYNCH JR., multi time track champ BOB FELMLEE plus young guns DANNY HOLTGRAVER,CARL BOWSER and others.
Entries for the LIMITED SPRINTS will be multi time winners BRANDON SPITHALER, ROB FELIX, and JIM MORRIS. Others include SHARON rookie of the year ADAM KEKICH, NICK MILLER, and JASON SCOVILLE.
