FRIDAY NIGHT RACING AT MERCER THIS WEEKEND

FRIDAY NIGHT RACING AT MERCER THIS WEEKEND; FREE GENERAL ADMISSION FOR VENANGO COUNTY RESIDENTS; FULL SHOW PLUS PA MOD LITE SERIES ON TAP

By Mike Leone

July 31, 2006 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Mercer, PA…Mercer Raceway Park will switch to Friday night racing this weekend, August 4, as there will be no racing Saturday night. A full night of racing will be on tap Friday under the lights featuring the RoadRunner & Lake Road Auto Sales Sprint Cars, American Racer/Lias Tire Modifieds, Tire Express Stock Cars, Maurer’s Trading Post Strictly Stocks, plus a special appearance by the PA Mod Lite Series with racing beginning one half hour later at 7:30 p.m. It’s the rescheduled Yellow Book USA Night and Froggy Friday plus it’s Emerson Process Management Corp. Night.

“We wanted to experiment with some Friday night shows,” explained owner Vicki Emig on the switch. “We had four scheduled, but lost the first one in May to Mother Nature. Mercer has been a Saturday night track for 55 years, but some things came open with other area speedways so we thought we’d give it a shot. Lernerville Speedway doesn’t have the Sprint Cars, Modifieds, or Stock Cars and Gambler’s Raceway Park isn’t racing plus no one is running the Mod Lites or Strictly Stocks.”

Residents of Venango County can take advantage of free admission night. Adults living in Venango County can simply show their driver’s license and will be admitted for free along with any accompanying children 15 and younger.

“Even though we already had a free Venango County Night we decided to do another one,” said Emig. “Our first one back on June 3 was well attended despite the fact that it rained most of the afternoon and evening in Venango County and surrounding areas. We talked to many people and heard from others that numerous people didn’t come because they thought we’d never race. We thought this would be a unique night to give fans from Venango County a second shot at coming.”

Making their second appearance will be the Mod Lites as part of the PA Mod Lite Series, which carries a hefty point fund for the mini series. The event will pay $500 to-win. “We really enjoy having the Mod Lites,” expressed Emig. “In the past we’ve always just had them for the Little Guy Nationals, but we snuck them in in April before Deerfield opened and got a good turnout. Bill Bauer has always done a good job with the regional events and he put this mini series together this summer and we told him we’d be willing to add the Mod Lites to this show.”

The Sprint Car point race continues to close as it has been all season long. Bob Felmlee of Franklin, Pa. fresh off a win Sunday at Tri-City Speedway has been shutout of victory lane at Mercer since May 6, but holds down a slim seven-point lead over defending champion Rod George, who still is looking for his first win. George used a borrowed engine from Arnie Kent and finished fourth after being passed by Felmlee with two laps to go.

The unbelievable Modified point chase continues to be neck and neck. Entering Saturday night, Steve Young led Kevin Hoffman by one point and Mike Stine by two points. After Saturday night, Young of Grove City, Pa. and Hoffman of Franklin, Pa. are currently tied, while Stine sits just seven points back and fourth place Frank Guidace trails now by just 10 markers despite missing one night. Young has not won a feature at Mercer in more than seasons, but has finished in the top 10 all 16 features this season.

Brian Booher appears headed to his second straight Stock Car Championship. The Sandy Lake, Pa. driver holds a commanding 54-point lead over Andy Buckley and is tied with Mike Pegher, Jr. with six feature wins.
Nineteen-year-old rookie driver Bryan Wagner continues to extend his point lead in the Strictly Stocks. The New Wilmington, Pa. driver has five victories and now has a 39-point lead over Carl Ealy, who dominated the division at the beginning of the season.

Grandstands open at 5 p.m. Hot laps are slated for 6:45 p.m. and the first green flag will wave at 7:30 p.m. Admission for all others will be the following: adults $11, students 6-15 $5, children five and under are free, and the family pass is $25. Pit passes are $22.

Mercer Raceway Park is located minutes from both Interstate 79 and 80 just off Route 19 on Fairground Road in Mercer, Pa. Dirt track racing and quality family entertainment are presented weekly late March through September. The office in New Bedford, Pa. is open year-round Monday through Friday after 1:00 p.m. For more information call the office at 724-964-9300 or the track on race day at 724-662-1310. SPRINT TRIPLE 15S TO RETURN SATURDAY FOR “SPRINT SLUG-OUT” AT MERCER; MODS & STOCKS RACING FOR EXTRA BUCKS

By Mike Leone

July 18, 2006 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Mercer, PA…Mercer Raceway Park will host the seventh annual “Sprint Slug-Out” presented by PNC Investments this Saturday night, July 22. On the card will be the RoadRunner & Lake Road Auto Sales Sprint Cars, American Racer/Lias Tire Modifieds, Tire Express Stock Cars, and the Maurer’s Trading Post Strictly Stocks with racing at 7 p.m.
Annually one of the biggest races of the year, the “Sprint Slug-Out” will feature the high-flying, mudslinging Sprint Cars in a unique triple 15-lap format. The popular show was contested on Labor Day last year for the first time after being postponed early in the year by rain. Last year’s winners were Rod George, Mark Murphy, and Rob Eyler.
The first feature will be pill draw for the top 12 cars from the heat races; the second feature will be an invert 10, 12, 14, 16, or 18 drawn by the first feature winner; and the third feature will invert the top 12 in points accumulated from the night with the remainder of the cars straight-up on points. Each feature will pay $1,000 to-win. There is a $500 bonus if any driver can win all three features and the highest point man from the night will receive a $100.
“We’re expecting a good turnout of Sprints,” stated eighth year owner Vicki Emig. “We’ll be the only sprint show in western Pennsylvania and eastern Ohio on Saturday so all the top drivers are expected. We want to thank PNC Investments for coming on as a new marketing partner this year at the last minute. They got involved by presenting this event and purchasing a VIP suite.”
Bob Felmlee and Rod George have swapped the point lead back and forth all season long. Felmlee, the 1989 & 1998 point champion, has a slim three-point lead with three wins, but has been shutout of victory lane since the double feature night on May 6. Meanwhile, George is still searching for his first win of the season. Four-time winner Arnie Kent and three-time winner Rob Eyler are having career years sitting third and fourth in points respectively.
The racing in the Modified division has been phenomenal this year and the point race has been incredible changing seemingly every week. Just two points separates the top three drivers! Steve Young of Grove City, Pa. came back from an early race accident and managed to squeak his way to a 10th place finish last week to keep his perfect streak of 15 top 10s alive and was able cling onto a one-point lead over Kevin Hoffman. Ironically Young has been shutout of victory lane and Hoffman has just one win this season. Sitting in third in points just two points back is Mike Stine, who won his division-leading fourth feature last Saturday and is a Mercer regular for the first time in his storied career. Despite missing one night, three-time winner Frank Guidace is fast closing in fourth just 17 points back of Young. The 20-lap Modified feature will pay $800 to-win.
Defending Stock Car Champion Brian Booher of Sandy Lake, Pa. is having another stellar year with six wins and currently has a 47-point lead over two-time champion Andy Buckley. Buckley is tied with Alan Dellinger at 21 career wins since the track reopened in 1994 and Booher is just one back at 20. Despite missing three nights, Mike Pegher, Jr. has six wins. The Stock Cars will battle 20 laps for $500 to-win.
Rounding out the card will be the Strictly Stocks. Eighteen-year-old rookie Bryan Wagner of New Wilmington, Pa. continues to build his point lead as the five-time winner stands 27 points up on seven-time winner Carl Ealy.
Pits open at 3:30 p.m. and grandstands open at 4:30 p.m. Hot laps are slated for 6:15 p.m. and the first green flag will wave at 7 p.m. Admission is $15 for adults. Students 6-15 are $7. The Family Pass is $35. Children five and under are free. Pit passes are $30.
CAMARGO, IL (6-19-06) – The 24th Annual Ohio Sprint Speedweek is less than one week away and 410 sprint car stars from across the US will be in attendance to join forces with the All Star Circuit of Champions and Ohio local drivers to bring the fans some very exciting racing at seven different tracks over seven nights.
The All Stars will first travel to Lernerville Speedway in Sarver, PA on Friday June 23rd and then to K-C Raceway in Chillicothe, OH on June 24th as a lead-in to the original Speedweek established in 1983. This will serve as a warm up to the next seven nights of racing that will bring a $10,000 points fund to the Top 15 drivers at the end of the week. Points will be awarded throughout the week to the drivers who choose to participate. There is no entry fee. Drivers are not required to have an All Star membership to receive Speedweek points. The point fund payout is as follows:

1st = $2,0002nd = $1,1503rd = $9004th = $7505th = $7006th = $6507th = $6008th = $5509th = $50010th = $45011th = $40012th = $37513th = $35014th = $32515th = $300Total = $10,000

Mike Linder earns career best NST finish Tuesday evening at Fremont.

Remember asking your parents when you were growing up if you could stay up late on a school night. You could watch different programs on TV, talk more on the phone, it was great. Now as you get older doing a mid-week race makes you tired at work all day, then you have to turn the car around in a smaller time frame. I wish we were still hot for teacher.

With the NST in town Mike and the guys were ready to show why they won last year’s track championship. With the track dry slick already from the warm summer day a high pill draw for qualifying would be tough. Going out very late Mike timed in sixteenth out of the forty-five cars in the pits.

Prep for the heat race was made where Mike’s start would equal his car number, 3. Using the track’s spec right rear the driver and crew of Andy James Motorsports decided to use this as a test night for the rest of the season. What they did different I have no idea, plus I bet I wouldn’t be allowed to tell ya anyway. With the track as it usually is, Mike rolled out ready to go. The track however was slicker than they thought and Mike dropped two spots holding the car down on the bottom for the ten laps.

Time for the dash; the red 3 lined up outside pole thanks to the little girl who picked Mike "because he is good". Still battling for forward bite Mike lost one spot to earn third. This finish gave Mike a fifth place start in the A.

With everyone ready to go, the A was pushed off and Mike punched the time clock once again. In the early stages of the finale Mike battled with the 1r and the 7k. Later on it was the w20. All the while the track was getting tougher and tougher to get a hold of, slicking off more. At times Mike was entering the corner on the bottom but lack of grip forced the car to the middle or even the top. In the end Mike and the guys earned an eighth place run.

Andy James Motorsports is sponsored by Linder’s Speed Equipment, Beaverdam Contracting, Pro Shocks, Vision Quest, Engler Printing, Ultra Shield Race Products, Kistler Engines, Slammers Sports Bar, Woleslagel Moving Company.

Empire Super Sprints Heading to Little Valley This Saturday

For immediate release;
By Dean Reynolds
Contact: DeanR@empiresupersprints.com

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – This Saturday night, the nativepoker.com Tour for the Empire Super Sprints (ESS) will invade the Cattaraugus County Fairgrounds and the Little Valley Speedway. The lone visit by the winged warriors in the big, paper clip shaped half-mile is always a fan favorite and on this night it will be no different.
Just like 2006 where Mother Nature is the leading A-Main winner, ESS’ visit last year also fell victim to rain so many of the stars and cars of the 360 sprint car organization can’t wait for the return visit. Dan Kaszubinski won the last event back on June 11, 2004 and he brings some 30 others sprinters to the pits with the point lead. His consistency so far aboard the Fratto Motorsports entry has him leading Justin Barger, Jeff Cook, Mike Stelter and rookie Jason Barney after three events.
All teams in the top five will be on hand along with A-Main winners Jessica Zemken and Steve Poirier. Defending champion Lance Yonge will also be in the pits with other top drivers such as Doug Emery, Jeff VanDusen, Alain Bergeron and local favorite Kyle Moffit.
The nativepoker.com Tour has taken on a new look so far in 2006 with three first-time ESS A-Main winners. Will another new name grace the all-time win list or will an ESS veteran finally crack the winners circle? Pit Gates open at 3 PM with racing under way at 6 PM. For more information please log on to www.littlevalleyspeedway.com or www.empiresupersprints.com .

Patriot Sprints Headline Open Wheel Frenzy at "The Hill"

Rew, PA)
The Hill raceway will host one of the area’s biggest shows in the region Sunday, June 4th, with the American Sprint Car Series “Patriot Sprint Group” headlining an open wheel focused program.

The area’s longest running stock car track will feature the 650 plus horsepower, 1400 pound, winged racecars, along with The Interstate Micro Sprints, Southeastern Transmission Sportsman division, Marty’s Auto Street Stocks, and GTS Thunder Stocks, in one of the region’s most anticipated shows of the racing calendar. Some of the Northeast’s best sprint car pilots will tackle the high banks of the venerable oval as the nationally sanctioned series comes to town for the first time.

It not only marks the ASCS Patriots first visit to The Hill, but will be the first Sprint Car event to ever take place atop the ¼-mile, high-banked clay oval.

Ontario, New York’s Chuck Hebing has been on a literal tear thus far in the 2006 ASCS Patriot Sprint Group campaign, racing to victory lane in three of four events contested thus far. Rich Swarthout of Geneva, NY, is the only driver other than Hebing that has been able to crack victory lane.

Also on the card will be the Interstate Microsprints, 270cc powered versions of the sprint cars, capable of 16 second laps on a track like The Hill. Generally, what they lack in big noise, they more than make up for in wheel-to-wheel action, and excitement.

The Sportsman division, a local fan favorite, Street Stocks, and Thunder Stocks, will round out the card on one of the most sought after tickets in area stock car programs this season.

The local raceway has undergone a complete reversal of fortune under the new leadership of first year promoter Doyle Harris, with one of the highest car counts in the area, due in part to thousands of dollars of improvements, and a completely new attitude and format. “I’m not in this to make money” Harris states, “I just want the racers and fans to come and enjoy themselves. If it breaks even, then I’m pretty happy.

Holiday weekend provides fun and a new perspective for Mike Linder,(another win too).

You know that feeling when you wake up on a day off. For Mike, Steven, myself, and Jon Finsel, we were looking forward to sitting around staring blankly into the TV. Sponsor Rich Farmer changed all that. Calling it a last minute decision to race Monday is a lie, we had a whole two hours to completely prep a car that wasn’t even close to being race ready.

Saturday before the trip was made to Fremont the race world was buzzing with the news of two haulers in the pit area, the 83 and 26 of the NST. When the guys got to the track, prep was made for qualifying where Mike ended up fifth after time trials. Starting fifth in the first heat race the red 3 starting moving up (literally) at the drop of the green flag. With a wheelie Mike darted towards the wall for the only hiccup during the heat race. Using the top Mike was able to make it up to the runner up spot at the checkered flag.

With the invert the Andy James Motorsports entry rolled out for the feature in the six hole beside that 83. Slow and steady may have won one race but not this one. Using every line the track had to offer, the red 3 used the set up Steven and the guys gave him to perfection. Using patience and a heavy foot Mike moved through the field eventually passing pit side neighbor Bryan Scott for the lead around halfway into the race. The lead grew to a straightway at the finish. This was Mike’s second win of the year at Fremont.

Sunday at Attica the team was met by the new NST with their teams and officials. Knowing that the motor would come out of the car for a re-fresh at Kistler’s after the race, this was a night for testing. After qualifying 33rd out of 38 cars a 305 set up provided a little more speed. Herein lies the problem. Mike’s heat held Steve Kinser, Tim Kaeding, Paul McMahan, Shane Stewart, and All Star points leader Greg Wilson; and the track was also hammer down on the bottom, where Mike started ninth and finished seventh.

The B really didn’t get much better. Now that the track had become an absolute dust bowl, the problem was with seeing the track AND the cars around him. Mike made the decision halfway through to pull the car in and watch the A from the grandstands.

Andy James Motorsports is sponsored by Linder’s Speed Equipment, Beaverdam Contracting, Pro Shocks, Vision Quest, Engler Printing, J and J Auto Racing, Justco Machine, and Burns Iron and Metal.
