Holiday weekend provides fun and a new perspective for Mike Linder,(another win too).

You know that feeling when you wake up on a day off. For Mike, Steven, myself, and Jon Finsel, we were looking forward to sitting around staring blankly into the TV. Sponsor Rich Farmer changed all that. Calling it a last minute decision to race Monday is a lie, we had a whole two hours to completely prep a car that wasn’t even close to being race ready.

Saturday before the trip was made to Fremont the race world was buzzing with the news of two haulers in the pit area, the 83 and 26 of the NST. When the guys got to the track, prep was made for qualifying where Mike ended up fifth after time trials. Starting fifth in the first heat race the red 3 starting moving up (literally) at the drop of the green flag. With a wheelie Mike darted towards the wall for the only hiccup during the heat race. Using the top Mike was able to make it up to the runner up spot at the checkered flag.

With the invert the Andy James Motorsports entry rolled out for the feature in the six hole beside that 83. Slow and steady may have won one race but not this one. Using every line the track had to offer, the red 3 used the set up Steven and the guys gave him to perfection. Using patience and a heavy foot Mike moved through the field eventually passing pit side neighbor Bryan Scott for the lead around halfway into the race. The lead grew to a straightway at the finish. This was Mike’s second win of the year at Fremont.

Sunday at Attica the team was met by the new NST with their teams and officials. Knowing that the motor would come out of the car for a re-fresh at Kistler’s after the race, this was a night for testing. After qualifying 33rd out of 38 cars a 305 set up provided a little more speed. Herein lies the problem. Mike’s heat held Steve Kinser, Tim Kaeding, Paul McMahan, Shane Stewart, and All Star points leader Greg Wilson; and the track was also hammer down on the bottom, where Mike started ninth and finished seventh.

The B really didn’t get much better. Now that the track had become an absolute dust bowl, the problem was with seeing the track AND the cars around him. Mike made the decision halfway through to pull the car in and watch the A from the grandstands.

Andy James Motorsports is sponsored by Linder’s Speed Equipment, Beaverdam Contracting, Pro Shocks, Vision Quest, Engler Printing, J and J Auto Racing, Justco Machine, and Burns Iron and Metal.

KEVIN NOUSE CELEBRATES IN VICTORY LANE FOR TENTH CONSECUTIVE SEASON

When Kevin Nouse parked the R&R Motorsports #4R on the historic stage at Port Royal Speedway on April 29th, it was more than just another victory to go on his racing resume… it was something special. It marked the tenth consecutive season that Nouse has won a feature event in an open-cockpit car, and the 54th time he has visited victory lane in his career.

Although many drivers can boast current win streaks spanning out over consecutive years, what makes Kevin’s special is the variety of cars he has won in. It started in 1996 with a 270cc Micro Sprint and continued when he jumped into a 600cc Micro Sprint in 2000. Then, in 2002, Kevin moved to the ultra-competitive Super Sportsman division where he captured two victories as a rookie driver. In 2003, Kevin took another step forward. This time, he tackled the 358 Sprint Car division where he won three times as a rookie driver. Since then, Kevin has swapped his driving duties between a 410 and a 358 Sprint Car, gaining valuable experience along the way.

For the past 10 years, in 4 different divisions, one thing that you can rely on is seeing Kevin Nouse smiling in victory lane.

For more information on Kevin, please check out the official Kevin Nouse website at www.kevinnouse.com .

Silver lining in dark clouds for JR Stewart Motorsports.

When it rains, it pours, they say. And at one point for JR it was raining sprint cars. Fortunately everyone involved was OK. The cars however, became fairly ugly in quick time. For proof, pictures of the end result can be found in the photo gallery at www.tjslideways.com in the April 14 section. Big thanks to TJ and Marie for being at Lima for our first race together.
After three consecutive rainouts the 37s team finally got the first night in. Limaland and mother nature had the track smooth and fast. Practice led into the heat race where JR would start in the eight position. A jumbled start at the drop of the green flag and a faulty high speed allowed JR to pick up only one spot earning him inside third row start in the B. A much better start, and car, was had in the B with JR picking up two spots finishing third behind Rutan Rocket teammate Jeff Williams.

18th, that is where the JR Stewart Motorsports entry began the A. It is also where the A-Main ended. A red flag for a role over involving the 7c and the 22d on lap two was followed quickly for another flip involving the 21 on the restart. That was the one that ended our night. JR had picked up five positions at that point. The crew made a valiant effort to get the car back together but there simply wasn’t enough time.

Saturday the toterhome found a spot in the pits against the 410’s of Mercer Raceway Park next to old friend Aaron Shaffer. Practice found the car to be decent and Craig went to work making the car better for our outside front row start. The changes worked as the 37s lost only one spot against the lighter, more powerful cars finishing third handing the team a tenth place start on the grid. Even with sun visor JR made the comment that the sun was blinding him going into one, making the heat race even more difficult.

Changes for the A had Craig finding the sweet spot in the car that enabled JR to make some moves toward the front. Halfway into the race the 37s was sitting around the seventh spot when once again lady luck frowned upon us. "The car fell on the right front", that is what JR reported when the car began to slide back. He then pulled off the track two laps shy of the finish when the temperature gauge was reporting bad news. Spot number 15 is where the team ended the night.
Big Thanks go out the crews of both Dennis Yoakam and Dustin Daggett for the help Friday night. Congratulations to Dustin for his win Friday at Lima. I also need to send out a get well soon to my nephew James, who broke his arm playing in the yard this weekend.
A new sponsor has also come aboard in the last few weeks.

Mike Linder turns in All-Star performance this weekend at Attica’s Spring Nationals

Combinations of letters prevalent this weekend at Attica. The sanctioning body was ASCoC, guys from WoO showed up, along with the regulars of ARP. Throughout the whole weekend though nobody from the NST, NRA, or SOD came to play, leaving some letters out in the cold.
Friday night was the opener of the two day show at Attica. Qualifying is something Mike has said in the past is not his specialty. It would ring true this night being 18th of 41 cars. Changes to the car were made, and the red number 3 got a little faster. Driving on a track where all lanes could be utilized, a fourth place in the second heat locked the Andy James Motorsports entry into the A.

The A is where that time trial sheet may bite you. Starting 15th Mike and the guys knew their work would be cut out for them. Luckily for the fans, this did not deter them in any way. With the proper changes made, Steven turned the red number 3 into the little red express marching up to the forth spot by the end of the forty lap A-Main

Remember where Mike finished both his heat and the A Friday? If you said forth you will also have the answer for Mike’s qualifying time for Saturday night. Starting sixth in the, yes, forth heat, Mike unfortunately finished there as well and did not transfer, sending him to the B. After two days of racing and a lot of race cars, the track finally began to slick off. Running the bottom, Mike took the car to a second place finish giving him an eight place start in the A.

With the track still slick and starting on the outside, Mike knew he would have to get to the bottom as soon as possible. Running the bottom early, Mike was able to hold position until around half-way when the track began to rubber up. Moving up to the middle part of the track, spots slowly started to come until the end when the red number 3 finished, what, forth.

2nd ANNUAL “CANADIAN SPRINT CAR NATIONALS” AFFILIATE SANCTIONS GROWS TO SIX

An even stronger field of 360 sprints will converged on the Styres family owned Ohsweken Speedway, a fast three-eights mile clay oval located on the Six Nations Reserve just outside Brantford, Ontario when the 2nd annual running of the “Canadian Sprint Car Nationals” set for September 15th and 16th takes place. Not to say that last year’s seventy-two entries who attended the 2005 edition of the race was disappointing by any means.
In fact, the inaugural event run last September 17th was much more than expected. The four regional sprint series bordering the area which threw their support behind the race was impressive; and the huge crowd that turned out was unbelievable. Kenny Jacobs of Holmesville, Ohio driving a JEI chassis prepared by Mike Woodring took the win over Jeff VanDusen in one of the greatest events in the modern day era of dirt track racing in Ontario. The reception received from the fans and race teams provided the encouragement to the organizing staff to go with a second race and proceed with a plan to develop the Nationals into the annual premier event at Ohsweken.
With that in mind, CSCN staff has been able to secure “affiliate sanctions” from two more bodies neighboring the region. The NRA (National Racing Alliance) headquartered in Lima, Ohio are the last to join the CSCN group. Represented by several teams at the inaugural race last year including J.R. Stewart, Tim Allison, and Cory Seeling the NRA is expected to send a large contingent to this year’s race. The other group to throw support behind the CSCN this year will be the URC (United Racing Company) operating out of Dover, Delaware. Recently reorganizing, the former United Racing Club is rich in sprint car tradition with over fifty years of sanctioning experience. Still operating under the direction of John Zimmerman and Bob Miller, the URC boasts of such notables as Kramer Williamson, Curt Michael, Kevin Welsh, and Dave Ely of DMI Sprint Racing Parts and should also send a strong contingent that will raise the bar of competition. They join the New York state based ESS (Empire Super Sprints) and PSG (Patriot Sprint Group who have recently been absorbed by ASCS), the ASCS Sprints On Dirt (SOD) from Michigan, and the home grown SOS (Southern Ontario Sprints). Together they form all of the 360 sanctioning bodies in the north-east region operating in nearly 1.25 million acres in seven states and two Canadian Provinces.
The second “Canadian Sprint Car Nationals” presented by Arrow Express, will retain a one day format and look very similar to the inaugural race. Time trials will once again set the starting line-ups for the heat races. There will however, be a couple of subtle differences. First of all, the winner will collect $6,000, up from $5,000 in 2005 while second place will now pay $3,000. And secondly, two additional positions will be added to the starting field of the 30 lap “A” Main which will now total 26. Each of the additional positions will pay $500.
Friday night September 15 will also feature a program of sprint cars with the second running of the “Village Pizza - Ohsweken Shootout” headlining the program. Also on the card will be a series of sprint heats lined up by a random draw and a pair of 15 lap features with the two winners guaranteed starting positions in the Nationals “A” Main the following night.
Make your plans now to join us at Ohsweken Speedway on September 15 & 16, 2006 for the “Canadian Sprint Car Nationals” weekend. More information will be released in the coming weeks as momentum grows and entries begin to be filed.

Brandon Martin Joins 2006 All Star Rookie Chase

CAMARGO, IL (3-31-06) – As the 2006 All Star tour gets ready to turn up the heat on the World of Outlaws in the season’s first co-sanctioned event at Eldora Speedway on April 7th & 8th, Brandon Martin will be turning up the heat on the All Star Rookie of the Year chase. Brandon and BMI Racing (Attica, OH) made the announcement this week that they will be chasing the Rookie of the Year honors which pays the winner of the award $10,000 on top of the Season Championship Points Fund.

Brandon raced full time with the MASS series in 2005 along with Chad Blonde, who will also be competing for the All Star Rookie title in 2006. James Mosher from Albuquerque, NM will also be touring with the All Stars and chasing that title as well. “We have a great group of young, hard chargers running with us this season,” said series president Guy Webb. “These are the type of guys who are the future of the All Stars and of 410 winged sprint car racing in general.” With the exodus of 4-time All Star Champion Chad Kemenah to the World of Outlaws, the door is wide open for a new champion this season. “Five years ago nobody had heard of Chad Kemenah,” said Webb. “It’s time for the next champion to step up to the plate.”

Brandon Martin started racing 305 sprints in 2000 after spending 7 years turning laps in the go-kart ranks. He won Attica Raceway Park’s “Hard Charger” award and was Fremont Speedway’s Co-Rookie of the Year his first year in a sprint car. Brandon made his 410 debut just one year later in September of 2001 with the All Star series at Fremont Speedway. In 2002 he began racing 410's full time at Fremont and Attica. In December of 2004, Brandon spent some time in Florida on the super-fast high banks of Daytona Speedway testing in an ARCA stock car. His next big challenge will be the high banked dirt 1/2 mile monster called Eldora Speedway.

Brandon has gained lots of valuable dirt track experience around Ohio, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Indiana and has been building BMI Racing into a well oiled machine. “The rookie chase will be pretty cool,” stated Martin. “Chad Blonde is a good racer and he will be tough, however I do feel good about our chances. We just need things to go our way and to keep the car out of trouble and we'll be fine!”

Off the track Brandon has gotten a lot of attention as well. After the devastating hurricane season last year, Brandon and the entire BMI Racing team enlisted the help of the Northwest Ohio racing community to lend a hand to those who had lost everything. Martin converted his 48-foot trailer into a relief station, transporting over $50,000 worth of supplies to the nearly 8,000 residents of Pass Christian, Mississippi, which was literally destroyed by Hurricane Katrina. They chose this town because they were a small racing community as well and it just seemed to fit. One racing community helping another. Their generosity was well recieved.
“You can’t understand the destruction until you see it for yourself... it was utterly amazing,” said Martin after delivering relief supplies to the storm’s victims. To see the faces of the people when we opened that trailer door and they saw all the stuff.... they just couldn’t believe a bunch of race fans from Ohio would do that for them.”

Brandon will enter the 2006 All Star season with a brand new paint scheme and a new sponsor, Clean Burn, who is the manufacturer of the most reliable used-oil furnaces on the market. “I’m looking forward to the season,” said Martin. “The first couple weeks are going to be interesting and we just need some good luck!” You can find out more about Brandon and BMI Racing by visiting his web site at www.brandonmartinracing.com .

The All Stars will be in action on April 7th and 8th at Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, OH and then on to Attica Raceway Park for the Coors Light Spring Nationals on April 14th and 15th. Visit the All Star web site at www.allstarsprint.com for more information on the series as well as the most up to date schedule information

MERCER TO TRY AGAIN SATURDAY TO OPEN 55TH AVVIVERSARY SEASON; WEEKLY RACING BEGINS PLUS E-MODS ON THE CARD

By Mike Leone

March 28, 2006 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Mercer, PA…After losing the “Chiller Thriller” to Mother Nature for the second straight year, Mercer Raceway Park will try once again this Saturday night, April 1 at 7 p.m. to get the 55th anniversary season underway.
The four weekly divisions will start their championship races in the RoadRunner & Lake Road Auto Sales Sprint Cars, American Racer/Lias Tire Modifieds, Tire Express Stock Cars, and the Maurer’s Trading Post Strictly Stocks. Joining the program will be the E-Mods.
“It was disappointing to lose the Chiller Thriller again,” stated eighth year owner Vicki Emig. “We were set to go Saturday morning, but the weather took a turn for the worse and we had not choice but to cancel. Warmer weather is expected this weekend so hopefully the rain will move through come Saturday and we can kick off our season.”
Rod George will look to defend his first ever Mercer Sprint Car Championship. The Kittanning, Pa. driver never finished worse than fourth last season and will hope to get off to a strong start Saturday as he’s expected to have stiff competition with no other area tracks racing Saturday or Sunday. Crawford County’s RoadRunner Auto Sales and Lake Road Auto Sales have come together to be the divisional sponsor of the 410 Sprint Cars in 2006.
Coming off the inaugural 358 Modified season, Gary Smoker will look for his second career championship. The Mercer, Pa. veteran, who owns 33 career Mercer wins, will face the likes Tommy Kristyak, Steve Young, Kevin Hoffman, Andy Priest, Rick Hall, Frank Guidace, Brad Rapp, Brian Fink, Mike Stine, Lonny Riggs, Ron Eperthener, Jr., and many more throughout the season as an average of 30 cars is expected. Indiana’s American Racer/Lias Tire is the new Modified sponsor for the upcoming season.
The ultra-competitive Stock Cars always provide side-by-side racing. This year should be no different as defending champion Brian Booher leads a strong contingent of racers, who will battle for supremacy. The Sandy Lake, Pa. titlist was also a first time champion in 2005. Andy Buckley, the 2001 & 2004 champion, is two wins from tying Alan Dellinger’s leading 21 victories since the track reopened in 1994. New Castle’s Tire Express returns for the third year as title sponsor.
The Strictly Stocks will begin their third year of action. Will anyone be able to dethrone the Bishs? It was Curt, Sr. taking the inaugural crown in 2004 and Curt, Jr. last year. The father-son duo have accounted for 22 of the 36 feature wins. Franklin’s Maurer’s Trading Post will present the “Redneck Racers Shotgun Series” for the third consecutive year.
The E-Mods have taken part in 14 races over the years at Mercer Raceway Park, but will be featured more in 2006 than ever before. Saturday’s winner will pocket $400. Alan Dellinger is the all-time winner with three victories.
