RPM Publisher Faces Major Surgery; Paper Interrupted

By Doc Lehman

RPM Racing News will have a slight interruption in publishing in April that will affect the publishing schedule for three weeks due to the recently scheduled surgery for co-editor and co-publisher Dave Kittey. Kittey, who along with fellow co-publisher and co-editor Dr. David Horne are entering their 11th year with RPM Racing News. Kittey will enter the hospital on April 20 for major surgery that will take him away from his duties for nearly three weeks.

“I feel real bad this has to happen but the (hospital) testing took longer than they thought but the surgery is something that has to be done,” stated Kittey. Kittey will undergo a second stomach bypass surgery to correct surgery that was done three years ago that developed complications. “I hate this has to happen but I have to get it taken care of so I am healthy to keep RPM Racing News going. I do apologize to the readers and tracks.”

RPM Racing News will begin their 2006 publishing schedule tentatively on April 11 or April 18th and then take a three-week break from publishing. RPM Racing News will then resume publishing on May 9. “I have a lot of good people who help on the paper but they don’t know how to lay it out which is the main reason for the interruption,” explained Kittey.

Subscribers will receive all issues they have subscribed for and to that end Kittey announced their will be an extra edition published in October. “We’ll publish in October the week of Challenger Raceway’s MACS Fall Fest race and then again the week of the Dirt Track World Championship,” confirmed Kittey.

An announcement will be forthcoming on the decision to start the 2006 publishing schedule either on April 11 or April 18.

RPM Racing News is a weekly racing results newspaper publishing 27 times a season. Weekly publications begin in April and run through the third week of September, with additional printings in October and December. RPM Racing News carries results and photos from over 80 of the areas racetracks, from Ohio to West Virginia, Maryland, Virginia, New York and Western and Central Pennsylvania. RPM Racing News is the reality of a joint venture between Dr. David Horne and David Kittey. In 1993 they purchased the monthly magazine "Racing's Almost Perfect Magazine". The two had a goal, the need to fill a void they saw within the area's weekly news coverage of auto racing during the racing season. They continued to publish the magazine for three more years, while still keeping their vision in mind.

In 1996 the conception of their dreams became a reality, as RPM Racing News acquired Tri-State Auto Racing News, the areas oldest racing publication. The acquisition strengthened the market exposure and coverage for RPM Racing News. The move made RPM Racing News the leading periodical covering racing in the area.
