FRIDAY NIGHT RACING AT MERCER THIS WEEKEND

FRIDAY NIGHT RACING AT MERCER THIS WEEKEND; FREE GENERAL ADMISSION FOR VENANGO COUNTY RESIDENTS; FULL SHOW PLUS PA MOD LITE SERIES ON TAP

By Mike Leone

July 31, 2006 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Mercer, PA…Mercer Raceway Park will switch to Friday night racing this weekend, August 4, as there will be no racing Saturday night. A full night of racing will be on tap Friday under the lights featuring the RoadRunner & Lake Road Auto Sales Sprint Cars, American Racer/Lias Tire Modifieds, Tire Express Stock Cars, Maurer’s Trading Post Strictly Stocks, plus a special appearance by the PA Mod Lite Series with racing beginning one half hour later at 7:30 p.m. It’s the rescheduled Yellow Book USA Night and Froggy Friday plus it’s Emerson Process Management Corp. Night.

“We wanted to experiment with some Friday night shows,” explained owner Vicki Emig on the switch. “We had four scheduled, but lost the first one in May to Mother Nature. Mercer has been a Saturday night track for 55 years, but some things came open with other area speedways so we thought we’d give it a shot. Lernerville Speedway doesn’t have the Sprint Cars, Modifieds, or Stock Cars and Gambler’s Raceway Park isn’t racing plus no one is running the Mod Lites or Strictly Stocks.”

Residents of Venango County can take advantage of free admission night. Adults living in Venango County can simply show their driver’s license and will be admitted for free along with any accompanying children 15 and younger.

“Even though we already had a free Venango County Night we decided to do another one,” said Emig. “Our first one back on June 3 was well attended despite the fact that it rained most of the afternoon and evening in Venango County and surrounding areas. We talked to many people and heard from others that numerous people didn’t come because they thought we’d never race. We thought this would be a unique night to give fans from Venango County a second shot at coming.”

Making their second appearance will be the Mod Lites as part of the PA Mod Lite Series, which carries a hefty point fund for the mini series. The event will pay $500 to-win. “We really enjoy having the Mod Lites,” expressed Emig. “In the past we’ve always just had them for the Little Guy Nationals, but we snuck them in in April before Deerfield opened and got a good turnout. Bill Bauer has always done a good job with the regional events and he put this mini series together this summer and we told him we’d be willing to add the Mod Lites to this show.”

The Sprint Car point race continues to close as it has been all season long. Bob Felmlee of Franklin, Pa. fresh off a win Sunday at Tri-City Speedway has been shutout of victory lane at Mercer since May 6, but holds down a slim seven-point lead over defending champion Rod George, who still is looking for his first win. George used a borrowed engine from Arnie Kent and finished fourth after being passed by Felmlee with two laps to go.

The unbelievable Modified point chase continues to be neck and neck. Entering Saturday night, Steve Young led Kevin Hoffman by one point and Mike Stine by two points. After Saturday night, Young of Grove City, Pa. and Hoffman of Franklin, Pa. are currently tied, while Stine sits just seven points back and fourth place Frank Guidace trails now by just 10 markers despite missing one night. Young has not won a feature at Mercer in more than seasons, but has finished in the top 10 all 16 features this season.

Brian Booher appears headed to his second straight Stock Car Championship. The Sandy Lake, Pa. driver holds a commanding 54-point lead over Andy Buckley and is tied with Mike Pegher, Jr. with six feature wins.
Nineteen-year-old rookie driver Bryan Wagner continues to extend his point lead in the Strictly Stocks. The New Wilmington, Pa. driver has five victories and now has a 39-point lead over Carl Ealy, who dominated the division at the beginning of the season.

Grandstands open at 5 p.m. Hot laps are slated for 6:45 p.m. and the first green flag will wave at 7:30 p.m. Admission for all others will be the following: adults $11, students 6-15 $5, children five and under are free, and the family pass is $25. Pit passes are $22.

Mercer Raceway Park is located minutes from both Interstate 79 and 80 just off Route 19 on Fairground Road in Mercer, Pa. Dirt track racing and quality family entertainment are presented weekly late March through September. The office in New Bedford, Pa. is open year-round Monday through Friday after 1:00 p.m. For more information call the office at 724-964-9300 or the track on race day at 724-662-1310. SPRINT TRIPLE 15S TO RETURN SATURDAY FOR “SPRINT SLUG-OUT” AT MERCER; MODS & STOCKS RACING FOR EXTRA BUCKS

By Mike Leone

July 18, 2006 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Mercer, PA…Mercer Raceway Park will host the seventh annual “Sprint Slug-Out” presented by PNC Investments this Saturday night, July 22. On the card will be the RoadRunner & Lake Road Auto Sales Sprint Cars, American Racer/Lias Tire Modifieds, Tire Express Stock Cars, and the Maurer’s Trading Post Strictly Stocks with racing at 7 p.m.
Annually one of the biggest races of the year, the “Sprint Slug-Out” will feature the high-flying, mudslinging Sprint Cars in a unique triple 15-lap format. The popular show was contested on Labor Day last year for the first time after being postponed early in the year by rain. Last year’s winners were Rod George, Mark Murphy, and Rob Eyler.
The first feature will be pill draw for the top 12 cars from the heat races; the second feature will be an invert 10, 12, 14, 16, or 18 drawn by the first feature winner; and the third feature will invert the top 12 in points accumulated from the night with the remainder of the cars straight-up on points. Each feature will pay $1,000 to-win. There is a $500 bonus if any driver can win all three features and the highest point man from the night will receive a $100.
“We’re expecting a good turnout of Sprints,” stated eighth year owner Vicki Emig. “We’ll be the only sprint show in western Pennsylvania and eastern Ohio on Saturday so all the top drivers are expected. We want to thank PNC Investments for coming on as a new marketing partner this year at the last minute. They got involved by presenting this event and purchasing a VIP suite.”
Bob Felmlee and Rod George have swapped the point lead back and forth all season long. Felmlee, the 1989 & 1998 point champion, has a slim three-point lead with three wins, but has been shutout of victory lane since the double feature night on May 6. Meanwhile, George is still searching for his first win of the season. Four-time winner Arnie Kent and three-time winner Rob Eyler are having career years sitting third and fourth in points respectively.
The racing in the Modified division has been phenomenal this year and the point race has been incredible changing seemingly every week. Just two points separates the top three drivers! Steve Young of Grove City, Pa. came back from an early race accident and managed to squeak his way to a 10th place finish last week to keep his perfect streak of 15 top 10s alive and was able cling onto a one-point lead over Kevin Hoffman. Ironically Young has been shutout of victory lane and Hoffman has just one win this season. Sitting in third in points just two points back is Mike Stine, who won his division-leading fourth feature last Saturday and is a Mercer regular for the first time in his storied career. Despite missing one night, three-time winner Frank Guidace is fast closing in fourth just 17 points back of Young. The 20-lap Modified feature will pay $800 to-win.
Defending Stock Car Champion Brian Booher of Sandy Lake, Pa. is having another stellar year with six wins and currently has a 47-point lead over two-time champion Andy Buckley. Buckley is tied with Alan Dellinger at 21 career wins since the track reopened in 1994 and Booher is just one back at 20. Despite missing three nights, Mike Pegher, Jr. has six wins. The Stock Cars will battle 20 laps for $500 to-win.
Rounding out the card will be the Strictly Stocks. Eighteen-year-old rookie Bryan Wagner of New Wilmington, Pa. continues to build his point lead as the five-time winner stands 27 points up on seven-time winner Carl Ealy.
Pits open at 3:30 p.m. and grandstands open at 4:30 p.m. Hot laps are slated for 6:15 p.m. and the first green flag will wave at 7 p.m. Admission is $15 for adults. Students 6-15 are $7. The Family Pass is $35. Children five and under are free. Pit passes are $30.
CAMARGO, IL (6-19-06) – The 24th Annual Ohio Sprint Speedweek is less than one week away and 410 sprint car stars from across the US will be in attendance to join forces with the All Star Circuit of Champions and Ohio local drivers to bring the fans some very exciting racing at seven different tracks over seven nights.
The All Stars will first travel to Lernerville Speedway in Sarver, PA on Friday June 23rd and then to K-C Raceway in Chillicothe, OH on June 24th as a lead-in to the original Speedweek established in 1983. This will serve as a warm up to the next seven nights of racing that will bring a $10,000 points fund to the Top 15 drivers at the end of the week. Points will be awarded throughout the week to the drivers who choose to participate. There is no entry fee. Drivers are not required to have an All Star membership to receive Speedweek points. The point fund payout is as follows:

1st = $2,0002nd = $1,1503rd = $9004th = $7505th = $7006th = $6507th = $6008th = $5509th = $50010th = $45011th = $40012th = $37513th = $35014th = $32515th = $300Total = $10,000

Mike Linder earns career best NST finish Tuesday evening at Fremont.

Remember asking your parents when you were growing up if you could stay up late on a school night. You could watch different programs on TV, talk more on the phone, it was great. Now as you get older doing a mid-week race makes you tired at work all day, then you have to turn the car around in a smaller time frame. I wish we were still hot for teacher.

With the NST in town Mike and the guys were ready to show why they won last year’s track championship. With the track dry slick already from the warm summer day a high pill draw for qualifying would be tough. Going out very late Mike timed in sixteenth out of the forty-five cars in the pits.

Prep for the heat race was made where Mike’s start would equal his car number, 3. Using the track’s spec right rear the driver and crew of Andy James Motorsports decided to use this as a test night for the rest of the season. What they did different I have no idea, plus I bet I wouldn’t be allowed to tell ya anyway. With the track as it usually is, Mike rolled out ready to go. The track however was slicker than they thought and Mike dropped two spots holding the car down on the bottom for the ten laps.

Time for the dash; the red 3 lined up outside pole thanks to the little girl who picked Mike "because he is good". Still battling for forward bite Mike lost one spot to earn third. This finish gave Mike a fifth place start in the A.

With everyone ready to go, the A was pushed off and Mike punched the time clock once again. In the early stages of the finale Mike battled with the 1r and the 7k. Later on it was the w20. All the while the track was getting tougher and tougher to get a hold of, slicking off more. At times Mike was entering the corner on the bottom but lack of grip forced the car to the middle or even the top. In the end Mike and the guys earned an eighth place run.

Andy James Motorsports is sponsored by Linder’s Speed Equipment, Beaverdam Contracting, Pro Shocks, Vision Quest, Engler Printing, Ultra Shield Race Products, Kistler Engines, Slammers Sports Bar, Woleslagel Moving Company.

Empire Super Sprints Heading to Little Valley This Saturday

For immediate release;
By Dean Reynolds
Contact: DeanR@empiresupersprints.com

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – This Saturday night, the nativepoker.com Tour for the Empire Super Sprints (ESS) will invade the Cattaraugus County Fairgrounds and the Little Valley Speedway. The lone visit by the winged warriors in the big, paper clip shaped half-mile is always a fan favorite and on this night it will be no different.
Just like 2006 where Mother Nature is the leading A-Main winner, ESS’ visit last year also fell victim to rain so many of the stars and cars of the 360 sprint car organization can’t wait for the return visit. Dan Kaszubinski won the last event back on June 11, 2004 and he brings some 30 others sprinters to the pits with the point lead. His consistency so far aboard the Fratto Motorsports entry has him leading Justin Barger, Jeff Cook, Mike Stelter and rookie Jason Barney after three events.
All teams in the top five will be on hand along with A-Main winners Jessica Zemken and Steve Poirier. Defending champion Lance Yonge will also be in the pits with other top drivers such as Doug Emery, Jeff VanDusen, Alain Bergeron and local favorite Kyle Moffit.
The nativepoker.com Tour has taken on a new look so far in 2006 with three first-time ESS A-Main winners. Will another new name grace the all-time win list or will an ESS veteran finally crack the winners circle? Pit Gates open at 3 PM with racing under way at 6 PM. For more information please log on to www.littlevalleyspeedway.com or www.empiresupersprints.com .

Patriot Sprints Headline Open Wheel Frenzy at "The Hill"

Rew, PA)
The Hill raceway will host one of the area’s biggest shows in the region Sunday, June 4th, with the American Sprint Car Series “Patriot Sprint Group” headlining an open wheel focused program.

The area’s longest running stock car track will feature the 650 plus horsepower, 1400 pound, winged racecars, along with The Interstate Micro Sprints, Southeastern Transmission Sportsman division, Marty’s Auto Street Stocks, and GTS Thunder Stocks, in one of the region’s most anticipated shows of the racing calendar. Some of the Northeast’s best sprint car pilots will tackle the high banks of the venerable oval as the nationally sanctioned series comes to town for the first time.

It not only marks the ASCS Patriots first visit to The Hill, but will be the first Sprint Car event to ever take place atop the ¼-mile, high-banked clay oval.

Ontario, New York’s Chuck Hebing has been on a literal tear thus far in the 2006 ASCS Patriot Sprint Group campaign, racing to victory lane in three of four events contested thus far. Rich Swarthout of Geneva, NY, is the only driver other than Hebing that has been able to crack victory lane.

Also on the card will be the Interstate Microsprints, 270cc powered versions of the sprint cars, capable of 16 second laps on a track like The Hill. Generally, what they lack in big noise, they more than make up for in wheel-to-wheel action, and excitement.

The Sportsman division, a local fan favorite, Street Stocks, and Thunder Stocks, will round out the card on one of the most sought after tickets in area stock car programs this season.

The local raceway has undergone a complete reversal of fortune under the new leadership of first year promoter Doyle Harris, with one of the highest car counts in the area, due in part to thousands of dollars of improvements, and a completely new attitude and format. “I’m not in this to make money” Harris states, “I just want the racers and fans to come and enjoy themselves. If it breaks even, then I’m pretty happy.

Holiday weekend provides fun and a new perspective for Mike Linder,(another win too).

You know that feeling when you wake up on a day off. For Mike, Steven, myself, and Jon Finsel, we were looking forward to sitting around staring blankly into the TV. Sponsor Rich Farmer changed all that. Calling it a last minute decision to race Monday is a lie, we had a whole two hours to completely prep a car that wasn’t even close to being race ready.

Saturday before the trip was made to Fremont the race world was buzzing with the news of two haulers in the pit area, the 83 and 26 of the NST. When the guys got to the track, prep was made for qualifying where Mike ended up fifth after time trials. Starting fifth in the first heat race the red 3 starting moving up (literally) at the drop of the green flag. With a wheelie Mike darted towards the wall for the only hiccup during the heat race. Using the top Mike was able to make it up to the runner up spot at the checkered flag.

With the invert the Andy James Motorsports entry rolled out for the feature in the six hole beside that 83. Slow and steady may have won one race but not this one. Using every line the track had to offer, the red 3 used the set up Steven and the guys gave him to perfection. Using patience and a heavy foot Mike moved through the field eventually passing pit side neighbor Bryan Scott for the lead around halfway into the race. The lead grew to a straightway at the finish. This was Mike’s second win of the year at Fremont.

Sunday at Attica the team was met by the new NST with their teams and officials. Knowing that the motor would come out of the car for a re-fresh at Kistler’s after the race, this was a night for testing. After qualifying 33rd out of 38 cars a 305 set up provided a little more speed. Herein lies the problem. Mike’s heat held Steve Kinser, Tim Kaeding, Paul McMahan, Shane Stewart, and All Star points leader Greg Wilson; and the track was also hammer down on the bottom, where Mike started ninth and finished seventh.

The B really didn’t get much better. Now that the track had become an absolute dust bowl, the problem was with seeing the track AND the cars around him. Mike made the decision halfway through to pull the car in and watch the A from the grandstands.

KEVIN NOUSE CELEBRATES IN VICTORY LANE FOR TENTH CONSECUTIVE SEASON

When Kevin Nouse parked the R&R Motorsports #4R on the historic stage at Port Royal Speedway on April 29th, it was more than just another victory to go on his racing resume… it was something special. It marked the tenth consecutive season that Nouse has won a feature event in an open-cockpit car, and the 54th time he has visited victory lane in his career.

Although many drivers can boast current win streaks spanning out over consecutive years, what makes Kevin’s special is the variety of cars he has won in. It started in 1996 with a 270cc Micro Sprint and continued when he jumped into a 600cc Micro Sprint in 2000. Then, in 2002, Kevin moved to the ultra-competitive Super Sportsman division where he captured two victories as a rookie driver. In 2003, Kevin took another step forward. This time, he tackled the 358 Sprint Car division where he won three times as a rookie driver. Since then, Kevin has swapped his driving duties between a 410 and a 358 Sprint Car, gaining valuable experience along the way.

For the past 10 years, in 4 different divisions, one thing that you can rely on is seeing Kevin Nouse smiling in victory lane.

For more information on Kevin, please check out the official Kevin Nouse website at www.kevinnouse.com .

Silver lining in dark clouds for JR Stewart Motorsports.

When it rains, it pours, they say. And at one point for JR it was raining sprint cars. Fortunately everyone involved was OK. The cars however, became fairly ugly in quick time. For proof, pictures of the end result can be found in the photo gallery at www.tjslideways.com in the April 14 section. Big thanks to TJ and Marie for being at Lima for our first race together.
After three consecutive rainouts the 37s team finally got the first night in. Limaland and mother nature had the track smooth and fast. Practice led into the heat race where JR would start in the eight position. A jumbled start at the drop of the green flag and a faulty high speed allowed JR to pick up only one spot earning him inside third row start in the B. A much better start, and car, was had in the B with JR picking up two spots finishing third behind Rutan Rocket teammate Jeff Williams.

18th, that is where the JR Stewart Motorsports entry began the A. It is also where the A-Main ended. A red flag for a role over involving the 7c and the 22d on lap two was followed quickly for another flip involving the 21 on the restart. That was the one that ended our night. JR had picked up five positions at that point. The crew made a valiant effort to get the car back together but there simply wasn’t enough time.

Saturday the toterhome found a spot in the pits against the 410’s of Mercer Raceway Park next to old friend Aaron Shaffer. Practice found the car to be decent and Craig went to work making the car better for our outside front row start. The changes worked as the 37s lost only one spot against the lighter, more powerful cars finishing third handing the team a tenth place start on the grid. Even with sun visor JR made the comment that the sun was blinding him going into one, making the heat race even more difficult.

Changes for the A had Craig finding the sweet spot in the car that enabled JR to make some moves toward the front. Halfway into the race the 37s was sitting around the seventh spot when once again lady luck frowned upon us. "The car fell on the right front", that is what JR reported when the car began to slide back. He then pulled off the track two laps shy of the finish when the temperature gauge was reporting bad news. Spot number 15 is where the team ended the night.
Big Thanks go out the crews of both Dennis Yoakam and Dustin Daggett for the help Friday night. Congratulations to Dustin for his win Friday at Lima. I also need to send out a get well soon to my nephew James, who broke his arm playing in the yard this weekend.
A new sponsor has also come aboard in the last few weeks.

Mike Linder turns in All-Star performance this weekend at Attica’s Spring Nationals

Combinations of letters prevalent this weekend at Attica. The sanctioning body was ASCoC, guys from WoO showed up, along with the regulars of ARP. Throughout the whole weekend though nobody from the NST, NRA, or SOD came to play, leaving some letters out in the cold.
Friday night was the opener of the two day show at Attica. Qualifying is something Mike has said in the past is not his specialty. It would ring true this night being 18th of 41 cars. Changes to the car were made, and the red number 3 got a little faster. Driving on a track where all lanes could be utilized, a fourth place in the second heat locked the Andy James Motorsports entry into the A.

The A is where that time trial sheet may bite you. Starting 15th Mike and the guys knew their work would be cut out for them. Luckily for the fans, this did not deter them in any way. With the proper changes made, Steven turned the red number 3 into the little red express marching up to the forth spot by the end of the forty lap A-Main

Remember where Mike finished both his heat and the A Friday? If you said forth you will also have the answer for Mike’s qualifying time for Saturday night. Starting sixth in the, yes, forth heat, Mike unfortunately finished there as well and did not transfer, sending him to the B. After two days of racing and a lot of race cars, the track finally began to slick off. Running the bottom, Mike took the car to a second place finish giving him an eight place start in the A.

With the track still slick and starting on the outside, Mike knew he would have to get to the bottom as soon as possible. Running the bottom early, Mike was able to hold position until around half-way when the track began to rubber up. Moving up to the middle part of the track, spots slowly started to come until the end when the red number 3 finished, what, forth.

2nd ANNUAL “CANADIAN SPRINT CAR NATIONALS” AFFILIATE SANCTIONS GROWS TO SIX

An even stronger field of 360 sprints will converged on the Styres family owned Ohsweken Speedway, a fast three-eights mile clay oval located on the Six Nations Reserve just outside Brantford, Ontario when the 2nd annual running of the “Canadian Sprint Car Nationals” set for September 15th and 16th takes place. Not to say that last year’s seventy-two entries who attended the 2005 edition of the race was disappointing by any means.
In fact, the inaugural event run last September 17th was much more than expected. The four regional sprint series bordering the area which threw their support behind the race was impressive; and the huge crowd that turned out was unbelievable. Kenny Jacobs of Holmesville, Ohio driving a JEI chassis prepared by Mike Woodring took the win over Jeff VanDusen in one of the greatest events in the modern day era of dirt track racing in Ontario. The reception received from the fans and race teams provided the encouragement to the organizing staff to go with a second race and proceed with a plan to develop the Nationals into the annual premier event at Ohsweken.
With that in mind, CSCN staff has been able to secure “affiliate sanctions” from two more bodies neighboring the region. The NRA (National Racing Alliance) headquartered in Lima, Ohio are the last to join the CSCN group. Represented by several teams at the inaugural race last year including J.R. Stewart, Tim Allison, and Cory Seeling the NRA is expected to send a large contingent to this year’s race. The other group to throw support behind the CSCN this year will be the URC (United Racing Company) operating out of Dover, Delaware. Recently reorganizing, the former United Racing Club is rich in sprint car tradition with over fifty years of sanctioning experience. Still operating under the direction of John Zimmerman and Bob Miller, the URC boasts of such notables as Kramer Williamson, Curt Michael, Kevin Welsh, and Dave Ely of DMI Sprint Racing Parts and should also send a strong contingent that will raise the bar of competition. They join the New York state based ESS (Empire Super Sprints) and PSG (Patriot Sprint Group who have recently been absorbed by ASCS), the ASCS Sprints On Dirt (SOD) from Michigan, and the home grown SOS (Southern Ontario Sprints). Together they form all of the 360 sanctioning bodies in the north-east region operating in nearly 1.25 million acres in seven states and two Canadian Provinces.
The second “Canadian Sprint Car Nationals” presented by Arrow Express, will retain a one day format and look very similar to the inaugural race. Time trials will once again set the starting line-ups for the heat races. There will however, be a couple of subtle differences. First of all, the winner will collect $6,000, up from $5,000 in 2005 while second place will now pay $3,000. And secondly, two additional positions will be added to the starting field of the 30 lap “A” Main which will now total 26. Each of the additional positions will pay $500.
Friday night September 15 will also feature a program of sprint cars with the second running of the “Village Pizza - Ohsweken Shootout” headlining the program. Also on the card will be a series of sprint heats lined up by a random draw and a pair of 15 lap features with the two winners guaranteed starting positions in the Nationals “A” Main the following night.
Make your plans now to join us at Ohsweken Speedway on September 15 & 16, 2006 for the “Canadian Sprint Car Nationals” weekend. More information will be released in the coming weeks as momentum grows and entries begin to be filed.

Brandon Martin Joins 2006 All Star Rookie Chase

CAMARGO, IL (3-31-06) – As the 2006 All Star tour gets ready to turn up the heat on the World of Outlaws in the season’s first co-sanctioned event at Eldora Speedway on April 7th & 8th, Brandon Martin will be turning up the heat on the All Star Rookie of the Year chase. Brandon and BMI Racing (Attica, OH) made the announcement this week that they will be chasing the Rookie of the Year honors which pays the winner of the award $10,000 on top of the Season Championship Points Fund.

Brandon raced full time with the MASS series in 2005 along with Chad Blonde, who will also be competing for the All Star Rookie title in 2006. James Mosher from Albuquerque, NM will also be touring with the All Stars and chasing that title as well. “We have a great group of young, hard chargers running with us this season,” said series president Guy Webb. “These are the type of guys who are the future of the All Stars and of 410 winged sprint car racing in general.” With the exodus of 4-time All Star Champion Chad Kemenah to the World of Outlaws, the door is wide open for a new champion this season. “Five years ago nobody had heard of Chad Kemenah,” said Webb. “It’s time for the next champion to step up to the plate.”

Brandon Martin started racing 305 sprints in 2000 after spending 7 years turning laps in the go-kart ranks. He won Attica Raceway Park’s “Hard Charger” award and was Fremont Speedway’s Co-Rookie of the Year his first year in a sprint car. Brandon made his 410 debut just one year later in September of 2001 with the All Star series at Fremont Speedway. In 2002 he began racing 410's full time at Fremont and Attica. In December of 2004, Brandon spent some time in Florida on the super-fast high banks of Daytona Speedway testing in an ARCA stock car. His next big challenge will be the high banked dirt 1/2 mile monster called Eldora Speedway.

Brandon has gained lots of valuable dirt track experience around Ohio, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Indiana and has been building BMI Racing into a well oiled machine. “The rookie chase will be pretty cool,” stated Martin. “Chad Blonde is a good racer and he will be tough, however I do feel good about our chances. We just need things to go our way and to keep the car out of trouble and we'll be fine!”

Off the track Brandon has gotten a lot of attention as well. After the devastating hurricane season last year, Brandon and the entire BMI Racing team enlisted the help of the Northwest Ohio racing community to lend a hand to those who had lost everything. Martin converted his 48-foot trailer into a relief station, transporting over $50,000 worth of supplies to the nearly 8,000 residents of Pass Christian, Mississippi, which was literally destroyed by Hurricane Katrina. They chose this town because they were a small racing community as well and it just seemed to fit. One racing community helping another. Their generosity was well recieved.
“You can’t understand the destruction until you see it for yourself... it was utterly amazing,” said Martin after delivering relief supplies to the storm’s victims. To see the faces of the people when we opened that trailer door and they saw all the stuff.... they just couldn’t believe a bunch of race fans from Ohio would do that for them.”

Brandon will enter the 2006 All Star season with a brand new paint scheme and a new sponsor, Clean Burn, who is the manufacturer of the most reliable used-oil furnaces on the market. “I’m looking forward to the season,” said Martin. “The first couple weeks are going to be interesting and we just need some good luck!” You can find out more about Brandon and BMI Racing by visiting his web site at www.brandonmartinracing.com .

The All Stars will be in action on April 7th and 8th at Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, OH and then on to Attica Raceway Park for the Coors Light Spring Nationals on April 14th and 15th. Visit the All Star web site at www.allstarsprint.com for more information on the series as well as the most up to date schedule information

MERCER TO TRY AGAIN SATURDAY TO OPEN 55TH AVVIVERSARY SEASON; WEEKLY RACING BEGINS PLUS E-MODS ON THE CARD

By Mike Leone

March 28, 2006 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Mercer, PA…After losing the “Chiller Thriller” to Mother Nature for the second straight year, Mercer Raceway Park will try once again this Saturday night, April 1 at 7 p.m. to get the 55th anniversary season underway.
The four weekly divisions will start their championship races in the RoadRunner & Lake Road Auto Sales Sprint Cars, American Racer/Lias Tire Modifieds, Tire Express Stock Cars, and the Maurer’s Trading Post Strictly Stocks. Joining the program will be the E-Mods.
“It was disappointing to lose the Chiller Thriller again,” stated eighth year owner Vicki Emig. “We were set to go Saturday morning, but the weather took a turn for the worse and we had not choice but to cancel. Warmer weather is expected this weekend so hopefully the rain will move through come Saturday and we can kick off our season.”
Rod George will look to defend his first ever Mercer Sprint Car Championship. The Kittanning, Pa. driver never finished worse than fourth last season and will hope to get off to a strong start Saturday as he’s expected to have stiff competition with no other area tracks racing Saturday or Sunday. Crawford County’s RoadRunner Auto Sales and Lake Road Auto Sales have come together to be the divisional sponsor of the 410 Sprint Cars in 2006.
Coming off the inaugural 358 Modified season, Gary Smoker will look for his second career championship. The Mercer, Pa. veteran, who owns 33 career Mercer wins, will face the likes Tommy Kristyak, Steve Young, Kevin Hoffman, Andy Priest, Rick Hall, Frank Guidace, Brad Rapp, Brian Fink, Mike Stine, Lonny Riggs, Ron Eperthener, Jr., and many more throughout the season as an average of 30 cars is expected. Indiana’s American Racer/Lias Tire is the new Modified sponsor for the upcoming season.
The ultra-competitive Stock Cars always provide side-by-side racing. This year should be no different as defending champion Brian Booher leads a strong contingent of racers, who will battle for supremacy. The Sandy Lake, Pa. titlist was also a first time champion in 2005. Andy Buckley, the 2001 & 2004 champion, is two wins from tying Alan Dellinger’s leading 21 victories since the track reopened in 1994. New Castle’s Tire Express returns for the third year as title sponsor.
The Strictly Stocks will begin their third year of action. Will anyone be able to dethrone the Bishs? It was Curt, Sr. taking the inaugural crown in 2004 and Curt, Jr. last year. The National Parts Peddler to Back the Halfway Bonus for the Empire Super Sprints in 2006.

By Dean Reynolds
Contact: DeanR@empiresupersprints.com

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – In another major sponsorship announcement, Corky Stockham and his National Parts Peddler Newspaper has joined the nativepoker.com Tour for the Empire Super Sprints (ESS) sponsorship fold in a big way for the 2006 season. The Parts Peddler will be the title sponsor of the nightly halfway bonus, the driver that leads lap 13 of each point show A-Main will collect an extra $100.
It marks the return to one of ESS’ pioneers as Stockham was a big supporter back in the early days of the 1980’s with a tour sponsorship. His widely successful trade publication has graced news stands and race tracks since 1976 and continues to grow with a tireless effort behind the scenes.
Not only does the Parts Peddler come out monthly with the latest in the parts industry from all forms of motorsports but Stockham has also been the force behind his annual Trade Show and Racer’s Auction which will be 27 years old in 2006. Also, a new tradition is the spring Racing Equipment Swap Meet which will be held this weekend at the New York State Fairgrounds. For the first time in 11 years, the event will be held indoors with space still available.
The National Parts Peddler logo will be place on each ESS sprinter for 2006 and his newspapers will be distributed at many of ESS events held throughout the Northeast and Canada. Also, don’t be surprised if you see Corky himself at several events as he is a big fan of sprint car racing.
The first event of the nativepoker.com backed tour will be on Saturday, May 6th with a return visit to the Fulton Speedway. A big field of sprinters will be on hand in attempt to dethrone two-time ESS champion Lance Yonge including the Parts Peddler sponsored sprint of long-time friend Dave Wickham.
A big welcome back to The National Parts Peddler Newspaper and the sponsorship of the nightly halfway bonus. With their involvement, the 2006 season for the Empire Super Sprints continues to grow and promises to be the most exciting in the 24 year history of the successful sprint car organization. For more information on the Parts Peddler and the Swap Meet for this weekend feel free to log on to www.partspeddlernews.net or call (315) 6997583.

RPM Publisher Faces Major Surgery; Paper Interrupted

By Doc Lehman

RPM Racing News will have a slight interruption in publishing in April that will affect the publishing schedule for three weeks due to the recently scheduled surgery for co-editor and co-publisher Dave Kittey. Kittey, who along with fellow co-publisher and co-editor Dr. David Horne are entering their 11th year with RPM Racing News. Kittey will enter the hospital on April 20 for major surgery that will take him away from his duties for nearly three weeks.

“I feel real bad this has to happen but the (hospital) testing took longer than they thought but the surgery is something that has to be done,” stated Kittey. Kittey will undergo a second stomach bypass surgery to correct surgery that was done three years ago that developed complications. “I hate this has to happen but I have to get it taken care of so I am healthy to keep RPM Racing News going. I do apologize to the readers and tracks.”

RPM Racing News will begin their 2006 publishing schedule tentatively on April 11 or April 18th and then take a three-week break from publishing. RPM Racing News will then resume publishing on May 9. “I have a lot of good people who help on the paper but they don’t know how to lay it out which is the main reason for the interruption,” explained Kittey.

Subscribers will receive all issues they have subscribed for and to that end Kittey announced their will be an extra edition published in October. “We’ll publish in October the week of Challenger Raceway’s MACS Fall Fest race and then again the week of the Dirt Track World Championship,” confirmed Kittey.

An announcement will be forthcoming on the decision to start the 2006 publishing schedule either on April 11 or April 18.

RPM Racing News is a weekly racing results newspaper publishing 27 times a season. Weekly publications begin in April and run through the third week of September, with additional printings in October and December. RPM Racing News carries results and photos from over 80 of the areas racetracks, from Ohio to West Virginia, Maryland, Virginia, New York and Western and Central Pennsylvania. RPM Racing News is the reality of a joint venture between Dr. David Horne and David Kittey. In 1993 they purchased the monthly magazine "Racing's Almost Perfect Magazine". The two had a goal, the need to fill a void they saw within the area's weekly news coverage of auto racing during the racing season. They continued to publish the magazine for three more years, while still keeping their vision in mind.

In 1996 the conception of their dreams became a reality, as RPM Racing News acquired Tri-State Auto Racing News, the areas oldest racing publication. The acquisition strengthened the market exposure and coverage for RPM Racing News. The move made RPM Racing News the leading periodical covering racing in the area.

GRANDPA CAIN

From Walt Wimer

Bobby Cain of Weedsport, N. Y. was elected to the DIRT Motorsports Hall of Fame in 2005. Cain is a veteran driver who began racing at the tender age of 16 (well before go-carts, dwarf cars and NASCAR development contracts!!!) and raced for some 58 years. Over his long career, Cain has raced a ton of dirt tracks. a few paved ones and along way the old beach-road course in Daytona Beach, Florida and at Watkins Glenn. He drove about anything with wheels on it. Mostly Sportsman and Modified coupes, but also Super Modifieds, Midgets and Sprint Cars. He even ran a sports car once at Watkins Glen.
Around central New York he was known as the "Quaker Shaker" due to Cain being a native to the Pennsylvania Dutch country in the eastern part of that state. He began his career at the Hilltop Speedway in Lebanon, Pa where the Lancaster native ran against the famed Dick "Toby" Tobias. He raced Midgets for a while and then into stock cars, winning a race at the famed Reading Fairgrounds well before that track became famous, and raced at other now well know tracks such as Williams Grove, Lincoln and Susquehanna in his early days. His racing got interrupted when he served two years on the front lines in Korea. After his military duty he moved south to Key West, Florida where he built a car and raced at Hialeah Speedway, a paved track which just closed last year. He then moved to New York and began running many tracks such as Waterloo, Weedsport, Lancaster and Fulton when that track was known as Mil-ray Speedway. He started running at Weedsport shortly after the track opened in 1955 and finally won his first feature there in July of 1964. He ran some URC Sprint Car races around 1962 and then came out with a very controversial car that was more or less a Super-Modified with a Falcon body. He won many races with that car until it was retired in 1971. He was Waterloo champ in 1966 and won the Weedsport title in 1970. As his driving career was winding down he began helping several other drivers on their "late model" cars. But being the owner of a garage and machine shop, working on cars didn't give him near the satisfaction of driving them, so Cain went to racing Sprint Cars with the Empire Super Sprint Series, with just his wife Linda as his pit crew. In 1984 he got his first ESS win at the Meritville Speedway in Canada. Then he won at his "home track", Weedsport, in 1987. That year and the next he won three more Sprint races at Brewerton and the Devils Bowl in Vermont. He sold his ESS car in 1997. But he was not about to quit driving when, at age 67, he bought another Sprint Car and began making trips down to western and central PA. During those years he appeared at most western PA tracks such as Mercer, Sportsmans, Challenger, Tri-City and Lernerville as well as Clinton County to the east. When elected to the DIRT Hall of Fame in 2005, the "Quaker Shaker" was still racing well into his seventies.

The photo here was taken in 1971 at Weedsport during one of my visits to that track. The car is a rather hacked on 1936 Chevy coupe that I think may have been the replacement for the famed and controversial Falcon bodied car. Nothing fancy here, just a bare bones old coupe that was once the backbone of the sport.

The info here is from the DIRT Motorsports release by Gary Spaid for Cain's induction to the Hall of Fame in May of last year.

MERCER RACEWAY PARK READY FOR AN EXTRAVAGANT 2006 SEASON; JAMMED-PACKED 27-NIGHT SCHEDULE RELEASED WITH OPENING NIGHT SET FOR MARCH 25

By Mike Leone

March 9, 2006 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Mercer, PA…Mercer Raceway Park recently released the 2006 schedule of event as Saturday, March 25 has been set as the 55th anniversary season opener with late models, e-mods, and open stock cars making up the “Chiller Thriller”. Gates will open at 4:30 p.m. with the first green flag of the new season set to wave at 7 p.m. Another season of heart-pounding racing excitement and quality family events make up the 27-night slate.

Mercer Raceway Park is pleased to announce two new divisional sponsors that will join two returning ones. RoadRunner & Lake Road Auto Sales will be the new title sponsor of the headlining sprint cars, while American Racer/Lias Tires have come aboard as the modified divisional sponsor. Tire Express returns for third straight year to sponsor the stock cars as does Maurer’s Trading Post as the “Redneck Racers Shotgun Series” for strictly stocks begins their third year. The four-division weekly divisions will take to the track one week later on Saturday, April 1 with points starting and the e-mods will return for the second straight week.

“We’ve put together another exciting and action-packed schedule,” said eighth-year owner Vicki Emig. “We’ve changed up some of our special events once again and have added to our second year of ‘Fan…tastics Entertainment Savings Events’ to go along with our great four-division grassroots racing weekly program. We are again offering more increased purse events to the regional racers than any other speedway in western Pa and eastern Ohio. The best thing about all of our special race events is that they are all so affordable for our fans with either a $13 or $15 adult and $33 or $35 family admission.”

The first special event following the opener will be a new show titled, “Deuces Wild!”, which will be presented by Hoosier Tire Mid-Atlantic on May 6. No heat races will be contested on this night. The top 12 point cars will be inverted for the Australian Pursuit, which will determine the first 12 starting spots of the first feature. The remaining cars will run in dashes to fill the remainder of the line-up, while the second feature will use an invert from the first feature’s results.

“The Return of Modzilla” will again feature three modified divisions including the BRP Tour, which will be the only appearance of the season by the big blocks. The small-block mods, e-mods, stocks, and strictly stocks will join in. This year’s event will be held on a Friday night, May 19 at 7:30 PM.

For the sixth straight year, Mercer Raceway Park will be the site of a world championship pulling event on Sunday, May 28 at 6:30 PM. The All-American “Spring Nationals” will include the Big Rig Semis, Smoker Tractors, Street Diesel 4x4 Trucks and the “Run What Ya Brung” Trucks with a rain date of Memorial Day at 5 PM.

The Hoffman Family will again come together along with Hoffman Door Co. to present the Jeff Hoffman Memorial on June 10. This year’s event will be contested for the small-block mods in their first of four major events for the year. The winner of the 30-lap modified feature will earn $2,000. A rain date of the following Saturday has been established.

A little over three weeks later, the modifieds will again return to the spotlight in the Tuesday, Fourth of July special featuring the first of two appearances by New York’s T3 All-Star Series with $1,500 going to the winner. The e-mods, open stock cars, and strictly stocks will be part of the special event, which will be presented by Alpine H2O with an early 6 PM start time.

On July 8 a unique program titled “Race, Rattle, & Pull” will be showcased. For the first time ever racing, pulling, and demo derbies will all be held on the same night! For the racing portion, the strictly stocks will be featured in double features (clockwise and counter-clockwise with bonus money on the line). A huge demolition derby paying $1,000 to-win will be held along with a first-ever compact car demo derby. For pulling fans, three classes have been scheduled including the street legal gas trucks, street legal diesel trucks, and the hot farm tractors. A rain date of Sunday, July 9 at 6 PM will be in effect.

For the second straight year, the “Sprint Slug-Out” will be made up of triple 15-lap features for the sprint cars each paying $1,000 to-win on July 22. A full show will complement the sprints with increased monies for all divisions as new marketing partner PNC Investments will present this event.

After a three-year absence, a celebration of the track’s anniversary will be held. The “55th Anniversary Event” will be held on August 26 presented by Armstrong Zoom Cable Internet Service. The sprints will fittingly run wingless on this night for $2,000 to-win and will share the billing with the modifieds in the Bill Emig Memorial also paying $2,000 to-win. The stock cars and strictly stocks will also be in action. The Vintage American Race Cars will have their cars on display and will put on an exhibition. Once again, all retired drivers will be invited as guests for no charge on this night.

The 18th annual “Western PA Sprint Championship” will have its richest payday in history as $3,000 will await the winner of the region’s biggest non-sanctioned sprint car event on September 9. The modifieds, e-mods, stock cars, and strictly stocks will join in. Points will end for the sprints, mods, and stocks.

After two weeks off, the “Little Guy Nationals” will take center stage as the region’s richest support division only event will again feature two packed days of action. Friday, September 29 includes stock cars ($1,000 to-win), micro sprints ($750 to-win), and mod lites ($600). Then Saturday afternoon, September 30 the stock cars return for a big $2,000 to-win event. The T3 All-Star Series will return for the second appearance as the winner of the modified feature will earn $2,000. The sixth annual Mel Myers Memorial for the e-mods will pay $1,000 to-win.

Mercer Raceway Park is pleased to welcome on new marketing partner RE/MAX Real Estate Consultants of Mercer, who will sponsor both the “Gladiator Series” and kids bike race events. The “Gladiator Series” will be the four-event Demolition Derby schedule with crash em’, smash em’ action on April 29, May 27, July 8, and September 30, while kids bike races will be held on May 13, July 15, and August 12

Along with “The Little Guy Nationals,” the micro sprints will make five additional appearances on April 22, May 13, June 24, July 15, and August 12 as all events will be sanctioned by the fledgling Interstate Micro Sprint Series. The e-mods will make nine stops throughout the season and points will be kept for the first time. The mod lites will join the card for their first of two appearances on April 15, and the PCTC Senior Series will race on May 27.
Grove City Auto Mall will present two events for this upcoming season. “Meet Your Heroes” Night will be held on June 3 as all drivers in all divisions will bring their cars onto the speedway for the camera and autograph night. Then on July 29 a first ever “Pack the Track”- Fan Appreciation Night will admit adults for just $5, students for $2, and families for $12.
Four free county nights will be featured including Beaver (April 29), Crawford (May 27), Venango (June 3), and Butler (July 1). The Crawford and Butler County Nights will be presented by Armstrong, who will also present the return of the popular $10 Family Nights. Ohio Northern University Teams Up With Clint Reagle Again in 2006

ADA, OH (3/8/06) -- For the second year in a row, the orange and black colors of Ohio Northern University will grace the sides of Clint Reagle's #33 Sprint Car. The agreement, reached within the last week, will assure Ohio Northern's presence at the tracks Reagle races at.

Clint Reagle, entering his third year in a 360 Sprint, is looking to race at Limaland Motorsports Park and other regional tracks, as well as Sprints on Dirt (SoD) sanctioned events. "This is a great opportunity for everyone involved," Reagle said. "I know that everyone will benefit from this alliance and I look forward to representing ONU with my on-track performance as well as off-track appearances."

At age 22, Reagle is no stranger to dirt track racing. The Sherwood, OH native raced go-karts for eight years before stepping into a UMP Modified in 2001. After three seasons and several wins, he opted to make the move up to Sprints in his family-owned #33. In the fall of 2004, Clint reached a sponsorship agreement with Ohio Northern University that allowed him to race as a full-time college student. Today, Ohio Northern University and Reagle Racing are proud to announce the agreement has been extended for another season.

"We feel as though this is a great opportunity for Ohio Northern University to get even more name recognition," said Dustin Jarrett, a university spokesman for the Reagle Racing Committee. "It's a win-win situation for everyone involved and we're proud to have someone with as much talent, character, and enthusiasm as Clint representing our institution."
Ohio Northern University, founded in 1871, is located in Ada, OH. A private university offering a diverse, dynamic and unique learning community, Ohio Northern offers graduate and undergraduate degrees in the five colleges of Arts and Sciences, Engineering, Business Administration, Pharmacy, and Law. With a student body of 3,500 students, ONU is big enough to challenge and small enough to care.

The winner of the title will find themselves $10,000 richer at the conclusion of the 2006 season.
Litchfield, Michigan’s Chad Blonde, who drives the orange and blue Blonde Motorsports, Wesmar Engines, Maxim #5B, may be familiar to many of the fans in the Ohio/Indiana/Michigan region. Chad is 26 years old and has been a regular contender with the AVSS, GLOSS, and MASS series dating back to 1999. He has several wins with those groups and has run a number of races with the All Stars since 2003 whenever the series visited his area. In 2006, he has decided to make a run at the Rookie title and follow the All Star tour full time. So far in 2006 he has shown that he will be a tough competitor by making the A-main in all 3 All Star shows at Volusia Speedway against some of the best drivers in the country.
James Mosher, who drives the orange Isotopes Micro-Brewery, Mosher Motorsports, Kistler Engines, Maxim, #12m, calls Albuquerque, New Mexico home. He will venture out on the road full time this summer to compete in as many races as he can with a number of different organizations. His main focus will be the All Star schedule and the Rookie of the Year title. James was introduced to the All Star organization this year in Florida and liked the group and the level of competition. At age 29, he made the decision to follow the full tour in 2006 and looks forward to visiting new tracks around the mid-west this summer. James has raced mini-sprints for 10 years and won well over 200 main events in 12 different states, along with a few National Championships. He started racing sprint cars - both winged and non-winged 360 and 410 - in July of 2005. He then won the NMMRA rookie of the year, and also the SCOA rookie of the year.
The All Star Circuit of Champions would like to welcome both drivers to the series and we look forward to seeing them compete for the Rookie of the Year title in 2006. The Rookie chase is wide open and drivers still considering running for Rookie of the Year have until May 2006 to declare their plans to pursue the title.
