The 2nd Annual Dirt Nation™ presented by Lucas Oil Driver of the Year Championship winners were announced this past Saturday January 14 during the BPG Racing/Chad Sinon Motorsports Welcomes Dirt Nation™ presented by Lucas Oil broadcast that was live from the Len Sammons-produced Motorsports 2006 presented by VP Racing Fuels extravaganza. The top drivers of the year in dirt Late Models, Sprint Cars and Modifieds were Shannon Babb, Fred Rahmer and Tim Fuller, respectively.
The 2nd Annual Dirt Nation™ presented by Lucas Oil Driver of the Year Championship solicited nominations from race fans all over the country and the final voting ballot were sent to a select panel of professional media members who selected the three drivers of the year for dirt Late Models, Modifieds and Sprint Cars.
The winners will each receive $1,000 cash, a championship jacket and trophy from Lucas Oil. Additionally, each winner will also receive a Hoosier Racing Tire jacket from Hoosier Tire Midwest and a one-year subscription to Area Auto Racing News. The winning dirt Late Model driver will also be awarded a ‘graphics wrap’ from Panther Motorsports Design.
Illinois driver Shannon Babb had a tremendous season in dirt Late Models racing with a variety of sanctions and scoring the ’05 UMP Summer Nationals championship title and edged out Tim McCreadie by a scant three votes. Fred Rahmer continued his east coast dominance in Sprint Cars and beat out Steve Kinser in the voting by one vote. Dirt NorthEast Big Block Modified champion Tim Fuller’s selection by voters was unanimous!
“It was again another successful promotion that was fun but first we have to thank the fans who participated in the nominating phase,” commented Doc Lehman, co-host of the radio show. “The response was just incredible and they took it seriously. We also have to thank the many, many professional media members who participated in the final voting process. It was a lot of fun and we’re already planning to make next year’s Drivers of the Year program even more lucrative and entertaining for the drivers and fans.”
“I’d like to thank the fans, too, and also acknowledge the generosity of the Lucas Oil company and the staff there,” stated Dave Seay, a co-host of the radio program. “ And not only Lucas Oil but the good folks at Hoosier Tire Midwest, Area Auto Racing News and Seann Anderson at Panther Motorsports Design. We’re looking forward to announcing who the winners are and getting them on the show to talk about it.”
"It was a blast to debut the winners at the Motorsports 2006 presented by VP Racing Fuels once again,” said Lehman. “It’s an honor and we have to thank Lenny Sammons, Joe Pratt and the staff for allowing us to be a part of that tremendous show for another year.”
