SYRACUSE, N.Y. – It’s like reuniting with an old chum. The Empire Super Sprints (ESS) are returning to the heart of DIRT country with a July weekend visit to the Canandaigua Speedway and the Rolling Wheels Raceway Park. After several years’ absence, the stars and cars from the nativepoker.com Tour will again roam the half-miles in Ontario County and Elbridge, N.Y.
DIRT MotorSports fans, lock the dates of July 22 & 23 as some of the very best to wheel “America’s Race Cars” will be invading your house for an exciting weekend visit.
It will be four years since ESS has last trekked the “Land of Legends” in Canandaigua, N.Y. but many of the winged chauffeurs of ESS still has turned many a lap around the fun, multi-grooved oval. Drivers such as two-time and defending champion Lance Yonge along with Tim Kelly, Randy Years, Gordy Button and possible Rob Dietrick could be in the field on this night and they have A-Main wins here. Along with the likes of Jeff VanDusen, Jeff Cook as well as local favorites Bubby Kerrick, Nick Fratto and Mike Stelter expected to be in the field you can bet to see a star studded field.
While the ESS stars have made an annual visit to the “Fast Track” during Super DIRT Week as part of the Sprint Challenge, this will mark the first full point visit to Rolling Wheels since Sept. of 1993 where Yonge was again the victor. Several of ESS’ greats have joined Yonge as A-Main winners such as Craig Keel, John Brutcher and Bobby Parrow. Looking to etch their name to the winner’s column will be drivers such as Dan Kaszubinski (a previous challenge winner), Alain Bergeron, Don Sharp Jr., John Karklin Jr. and the Norrie Brothers. Also, the “new crop” for 2006 such as Steve Poirier, Jessica Zemken, Jason Barney and Tommy Wickham to name a few will be out in force on this Sunday evening.
The nativepoker.com tour for the Empire Super Sprints is set up have a big and exciting 2006 campaign which marks the 23rd anniversary for the successful 360 organization. From May to October, some 37 dates have already been secured with a record payoff and point fund awaiting the competitors. While much of the off-season news is new and exciting, it’s always nice to welcome some old acquaintances back….Canandaigua and Rolling Wheels, the ESS tradition will continue with excitement guaranteed!
