Zach Gibson Wins 2008 Buckeye Super Sprints Championship

For Immediate Release:

Zach Gibson Wins 2008 Buckeye Super Sprints Championship

Marysville, OH……...2008 was a year of tragedy and triumph for third generation open wheel racer Zach Gibson. He started out the season in the newly formed Buckeye Super Sprint Series with a car he built himself, and his first year as an owner and driver. The 19 year old Gibson was successful right out of the box with a win at Toledo Speedway on May 16th and another win on May 31st at Sandusky Speedway for the Ohio based pavement series. Zach was on an early points lead, and everything was going great for him.

On July 18th while Zach was racing at Kilkare Speedway, his Uncle Terry Gibson was in a fatal accident while driving a supermodified race car at Toledo Speedway. Zach got the news from his dad Larry, and was asked if he wanted to race or go home. Zach was very close to his Uncle Terry, and the two have raced together for the past three years- he considered Terry his mentor. Zach chose to race that night. He was on a mission to honor his Uncle Terry with a win, and that he did. Holding back his grief- he won at Kilkare that night and was barely able to speak in victory lane as he dedicated the win to his Uncle Terry.

Zach comes from one of the most well known families in open wheel racing, with his grandfather Todd Gibson, a former supermodified racing legend and his dad, Larry is a former ARCA midget champ, along with his uncles, Gene Lee, Terry and Jeff all being successful open wheel racers from the Midwest. The outpouring from the racing community after Terry’s loss to the Gibson family was tremendous; but Zach felt that there was one way he could continue to honor his uncle’s memory in the sport they loved the most -- win the championship and keep winning.

Zach went on to win again at Columbus Motor Speedway on August 2nd, and clinched the Buckeye Super Sprint Series Championship by August 23rd at Sandusky Speedway, in the series inaugural season. Zack earned a total of 5 wins and set two fast times, with a season ending lead of 70 points over 2nd place in the overall standings.

This championship will also mark the 40th anniversary since the last championship his grandfather Todd Gibson won in his famed #00 “Flintstone Flyer”. Zach continued that tradition carrying the same #00 and “Flintstone Flyer III” on his race car.

“This championship is all for my Uncle Terry,” says Zach. “I could go to him for anything.. Terry was with me for my first win ever at Toledo in 2006. He was with me racing almost every Saturday night. He was the best to race with, and the most fun. He was more than my uncle, he was my friend. We finished 1-2 in the WSoA championship two years ago, I won it, but it was so much better being up there with him. It will keep me going if I continue to race in his memory.”

Zach will receive the Buckeye Super Sprint Championship honors at the 2008 Buckeye Super Sprint Series Banquet on Saturday, January 17, 2009 at the Holiday Inn in Westlake, Ohio.

This marks the 2nd pavement sprint car series championship for Zach Gibson in the last three years. Zach also ran his sprint car this past season at the Oswego (NY) Classic, and also ran some non-wing sprint shows with much success.

Zach would like to thank his sponsors; Walston Motors of Marion, Ohio and WG Lawn Service of Richwood, Ohio.. Special thanks to Larry Gibson, and Dick Meyers; as well as Todd Ridgeway of Ridgeway Photos and Kevin Jaycox of Buckeye Super Sprints.

USAC National Sprint Series coming to Mercer 6/6/09‏

HISTORY TO BE MADE JUNE 6 AS USAC NATIONAL SPRINT CARS SERIES MAKES THEIR INAUGURAL APPEARANCE AT MERCER RACEWAY PARK

By Mike Leone

December 17, 2008 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

(Mercer, PA)…Sprint Cars have had a long and rich history at Mercer Raceway Park. The class has evolved from the coupes in the early 1960s, to the super modifieds in the mid 60s, and then into the traditional sprint cars in the ensuing years.

Throughout the speedway’s 58 years, many special Sprint Car events and various sanctions have made their way to Mercer Raceway Park such as the World of Outlaws, All Stars, URC, ESS, etc.; however, one of the most revered and oldest, the United States Auto Club (USAC), never found its way to Mercer. That will change and history will be made on Saturday, June 6 when the USAC National Sprint Car Series will have the grand finale of the Pennsylvania swing with one of the richest and most prestigious events ever contested at Mercer.

Although USAC has only made two appearances over the years in western Pennsylvania, they have never done so on a track smaller than a ½-mile. Mercer’s 3/8-mile bullring will provide an exciting venue for fans to experience traditional, non-winged Sprint Cars as USAC brings their Indiana-brand of wheel-to-wheel racing to The Park.

The event will be known as “The Wheelman” as it will bring back memories of years gone by when these special breed of men began racing these open cockpit, non-winged beasts. Many special activities will take place including a USAC driver autograph session on the frontstretch just before they strap in to do battle in this historic feature event. This will be the first time ever that all fans will have the opportunity to get up close and personal to the drivers and their cars during a major-sanctioned event.

“I think this is a fitting way to mark the anniversary of my 10th year of ownership at Mercer,” stated owner Vicki Emig. “It is a wonderful and memorable way to thank the fans who have supported me throughout my tenure. I believe this event has the potential to be one of the greatest races ever run at Mercer. Just imagine Mercer’s tricky configuration joined with USAC’s reputation for hardcore, on the edge racing and it’s just got to be great!”

Over the past two seasons, nearly 30 of USAC’s best have traveled east to compete in the Pennsylvania swing at Williams Grove, Grandview, Big Diamond, and Hagerstown Speedways. With five events planned in 2009 and more money on the line, a large group of USAC racers will again be expected to travel east. Mercer will be new territory to the vast majority of the USAC racers as they take on the locals that excel in non-winged action.

The USAC Sprint Car Champions list is a who’s who of sprint car racing with some of the best racers that have ever strapped in a race car. Drivers like Tony Stewart, A.J. Foyt, Parnelli Jones, Pancho Carter, Johnny Rutherford, Gary Bettenhausen, Ken Schrader, Sheldon Kinser, Tom Bigelow, J.J. Yeley, Dave Darland, Tony Elliott, Steve Butler, and Rich Vogler are just a sampling of some of the great USAC Sprint Car Champions.

This will be the first opportunity for many area fans to see Tony Stewart and Kasey Kahne’s USAC Sprint Cars in competition. Stewart’s 2008 drivers were Levi Jones (2005 & 2007 champion) and Tracy Hines (2002 champion), who finished second and third in points to Jerry Coons, Jr. Both drivers will be back in 2009 with Stewart. Brad Sweet and Brady Bacon were Kahne’s racers in 2008.

Traditional non-winged Sprint Car racing was the norm at Mercer before wings took over in 1980. Since that time, only 11 non-winged races have been run and none as big as the one that will take place on Saturday, June 6 with a possible rain date of Sunday, June 7.

Advanced tickets are on sale for just $18, which is a $2 savings off the $20 day of event ticket price; however, advanced ticket holders will be permitted into the grandstands at 3:30 p.m. for preferred seating (one hour before general admission tickets go on sale) and will also have pit access free of charge until 5:30 p.m. Advanced tickets will be on sale through May 31 and can be obtained by calling the office at 724-964-9300 or sending a check or money order to Mercer Raceway Park, 4368 Route 422, Pulaski, PA 16143.

Mercer Raceway Park is a 3/8-mile dirt track located just minutes from both Interstates 79 & 80 just off Route 19 at 555 Fairground Road, Mercer, PA. For more information, check out www.mercerracewaypark.com or call the office at 724-964-9300. For information on race day, call the track at 724-662-1310

Cobra Motorhomes and Trailers to Sponsor the Lucas Oil Empire Super Sprint Dash Series: Chuck Hebing Aboard the ESS Series for 2009.

Cobra Motorhomes and Trailers to Sponsor the Lucas Oil Empire Super Sprint Dash Series: Chuck Hebing Aboard the ESS Series for 2009.

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The 2009 racing season starts a new era for the Lucas Oil Empire Super Sprints (ESS) and the popular sprint car organization would like to welcome Cobra Motorhomes and Trailers as the title sponsor for the dash series. Successful owner and talented sprint car driver Chuck Hebing not only will be making his first sponsorship endeavor, but also a part of the ESS tour for 2009.

The man known around the sprint car ranks as the “Cobra” will be replacing huge ESS fan Walt Throne and Walt’s Hobby after a 22 year span in sponsoring the cars and stars of ESS. “Walt is like family to us but of course times change. He has handed down the business to his son and is looking to relax in his North Country camp.” said ESS President and good friend Chuck Miller. “We were so honored that Walt and his wife came to the 25th Anniversary Banquet. We will miss him, his rides in the van, his pep talks and all his jokes. We looked forward to seeing him at the races.”

While ESS is saying good bye to a good friend, Hebing is coming aboard as a big supporter for the upcoming season and hopefully beyond. “Chuck is so exciting on the race track and just loves sprint cars. We are glad to have him take over the dash series point fund sponsorship as well as having him on the tour for ‘09” said Miller.

Even though the Ontario, NY driver has six career ESS victories, this will mark the first time he will look a possible championship. “I started running mostly ESS at the end of 2008 and had a ball with them. They are one tough bunch of race teams but we are looking for the challenge.” noted Hebing. “It’s a long season and you need some luck but we will give it a shot. Sponsoring the dash series is just a small way to give back to the racers and I’m glad to be a part of ESS.”

Cobra Motorhomes and Trailers are located in Ontario and are committed in custom building of all motorhomes and trailers. There are no two Cobra projects that are alike. Top race teams such as Sweeteners Plus, H&H Racing, Jay James and many more went to Cobra for their work. It’s not just race haulers though; Hebing will build anything to your needs. For all the information that is at your finger tips, please log on to www.cobramotorhomesandtrailers.com

The top five drivers in the dash series points will share in the largest point fund ever. This signing is just a start of what will be a long line of major sponsorship announcements to come after the first of the year. Race teams will be vying for the largest payoffs in what is now the 26th year of the successful 360 sprint car organization.

For the latest up to date information, please log on to www.empiresupersprints.com where it will be a new era of excitement guaranteed. Also, everyone from the Lucas Oil Empire Super Sprint family we wish you a very safe and healthy holiday season.

An Interview with Civil War Sprint Car Series Champion, Sean Becker

By Gary Costa

Costa: Congratulations on your 2008 Civil War Series championship! However, it wasn’t a “gimme” by any means was it?
Becker: Thanks Gary and it absolutely was not. California has some of the toughest competition in the country no matter what track or series you race with, and they seem to be getting younger and faster every year. But this championship was won by this great team that gave me a car to win with every time we unloaded. I could not have done this without them.

Costa: This also makes you the first driver to win the Civil War championship (2008), the Golden State Challenge Series championship (2005), and the Chico track championship (2005). What do those accomplishments mean to you?
Becker: It truly means the world to me. I can’t fully explain how honored I am to be listed with names like Tim Green, Shane Scott, Glenn Boune, Andy Forsberg, Tim and Brent Kaeding. These are a few of the many racers I either watched and/or raced against, that I really respected on or off of the track. I hope that they would accept me into the club.

Costa: On your Civil War championship quest, you picked up 4 Civil War features (2 at Petaluma and 2 at Placerville). Why were you so successful at those 2 tracks?
Becker: Petaluma is a very fast, hooked up, rough, elbows up type track and I love that. I’m sure the people that watch me race wouldn’t assume that’s the type of track that I like, but any time you have to search around the track to find the smoothest, quickest line, it always makes for an exciting race. Placerville is a lot like the Outlaw Kart races in Red Bluff. Quick, tight, narrow and action packed. The third time I was ever in a sprint car, it was my first time at Placerville and I set second quick time at a Civil War race. It just felt like I had been racing there for years thanks to the Outlaw Karts. On a combined note, both tracks tend to get into lapped traffic rather quickly and I think lapped traffic separates the good drivers from the great drivers. I always look forward to the challenge of dealing with lapped traffic and even though I have lost many races because of lapped cars, I know that it is only making me a better driver.

Costa: It really was an exciting championship to follow. There was no holding back. You had to bring your “A Game” every night and “get after it!”
Becker: No doubt. We started the season 12th in points after the first race, battled up to a good size lead only to have it get chopped back into single digits toward the third quarter of the year. That’s the great thing about point championships; they’re typically a roller coaster ride and hardly ever a cake walk. You definitely count your blessings if you can pull a championship out.

Costa: I witnessed “the Shark” in action on a hot Placerville night. During the main event, you actually fell back a bit, but you found something on the race track and you gave a rim riding display I won’t soon forget. By the way, you won that race…
Becker: And I think we won that one with your boss’s motor under the hood too. We blew up two motors a couple of weeks earlier and Mike Sala stepped up huge for our team and lent us his motor and that baby purred like a kitten. He was one of the main reasons we accomplished what we did. We can’t thank him enough.

Costa: In addition to a great 360 campaign, you finished 2nd in Chico’s Friday night 410 championship, 23 points behind champion, Andy Forsberg. Do you feel that there was something that you could have done different to beat Andy?
Becker: I feel like if you had to describe me as a driver, consistency would be a part of the description, and unfortunately we were not that this year. I started the year very slow trying to figure out a new car and when we finally started to put in some good runs, it was just too little too late. Hopefully next year I can have another shot at him.

Costa: What race did you win on sheer determination this year?
Becker: Definitely the Silver Cup. We had to pass Randy Hannigan, Brad Sweet, Kyle Hirst and a personal friend and hero, Paul McMahan for the lead. We had a great battle with Sweet at the end with lapped traffic playing a key role and we held on for the win. That was a very fun race and a great way to start the 360 season.

Costa: I’ve noticed that you keep to yourself and are very reserved at the race track. But once that helmet is on – watch out!
Becker: I am a very quiet guy, maybe a little shy as well, but I’m mostly just a thinker. My mind is always wandering from how I can be better on the track, to music, to sports, etc. I do love chit chatting and welcome any conversations, but you’re right, I’m not usually the one to instigate them.

Costa: You’re such a calculated and talented Sprint Car driver, watching you wheel one of these beasts is very impressive…
Becker: Thanks Gary. That means a lot coming from a fan like you who has an enormous pallet for all things racing. I know I’m not the flashiest, most exciting or even the fastest driver out there, but I will give you my all and will forever strive to be better.

Costa: What are your plans for next year?
Becker: Currently we are planning to defend our Civil War title with the 2sb car and run as many 360 events as we can. We are still trying to work something out so I can run for the Silver Dollar track title again. I really miss running the Golden State Series, but it would be an empty feeling if I wasn’t competing for the Silver Dollar title.

“The Jack Frost 150” Enduro returns with 150 laps of pure excitement around the 3/8-mile track. Last year’s inaugural event was run in all day rain on a frozen track that saw a muddy Leigh Wheeler emerge victorious with over 120 cars entered. The Enduro will pay the top five finishers with a big $1,000 going to the winner.

There is still plenty of time to enter and take advantage of the $50 early registration fee, which includes driver’s pit pass and scorer’s admission into the grandstand. From December 23 on, the entry increases to $100. The Enduro will be cut off at 150 entries. Those that have entered will be receiving their car number and grandstand token in the coming weeks. While all the heated VIP Suites sold out immediately, there are still many reserved viewing spots available around turns one and two; however, these all sold out last year before the day of the event. Send a check or money or for $20 to Mercer Raceway Park at 4368 Route 422, Pulaski, PA 16143 and we will send you back your parking pass.

“We’re looking forward to this year’s event,” expressed 10th year owner Vicki Emig. “We would have never imagined the success of last year’s show especially with the rain and temps in the mid 30s. It was so much fun for both the competitors and the fans! Where can you take your entire family for just $15 for a day of fun outdoors in the middle of the winter? Adults are just $6 and the concession stand will be open as well. I have to thank Hovis Auto & Truck Supply for coming on board and presenting this year’s event.”

Two weeks later, the Normandy Banquet Center will be the site of Mercer Raceway Park's annual awards banquet and dinner for the sixth straight year. The facility will host the affair on Saturday, January 17. The Normandy Banquet Center, which is also the Hickory VFW Post 6166, is located on Route 62 just two miles east of Route 18 in Hermitage, Pa.

"We're thrilled to be going back to the Normandy Banquet Center for our banquet again," stated Emig. "They've done a great job hosting the affair the last five years and have we've heard nothing but praise. The facility is top notch and the food is excellent. The location is perfect and it's a short drive for the majority of our attendees."

Rod George (Kittanning, PA) will celebrate his second straight and third Luxaire Heating & Cooling Sprint Car Championship in the past four seasons. **F.A.S.T. Fest This Saturday**

On Saturday November 15th we will kick off the first ever F.A.S.T.
Fest charity event at the Fremont Eagles located at 2750 W. State
Street in Fremont, Ohio. Three bands will be playing throughout the
evening (Mourning Wood, Mr. Bone, and AC/DC tribute band Down Under
Thunder). The doors open at 7 pm with the first band taking the stage
at 8 pm. Bring a canned good or unopened toy for $2 off the $10
admission. If you don't bring a food or toy donation, we will take $2
of your $10 admission and give it to Racers Racing For a Cure to help
in the fight against cancer. All food and toy items will be donated
to the Checkered Flag Christmas charity which will benefit some
families in the area going through hard times around the holidays.
Remaining funds (minus expenses) will be deposited into the F.A.S.T.
point fund for 2009.

Local TV weatherman Norm Van Ness will be the master of ceremonies
for the evening. Norm was instrumental in helping pull this event
together and the F.A.S.T. crew would like to applaud his efforts. The
event will benefit three good causes and we hope to see everyone
there.

**Sponsor Hunt Continues**

With the recent downturn in our economy, many companies are
tightening their budgets going into 2009. However, we are still
actively pursuing several sponsors and hope to be able to announce
our projected point fund early in 2009. If you know of any companies
interested in advertising exposure through F.A.S.T., please point
them in our direction. We'll do the rest. Our goal for 2009 is to
establish this as a legitimate point series and build on that as we
head toward 2010. We have a point fund goal in mind, but we
understand the economy has affected many small businesses over the
past few months. I am still confident that we will put together a
total that will be close to that goal. We have just recently filed
for Incorporation with the State of Ohio and when that process is
complete we will begin collecting payments for the 2009 season.

**2009 F.A.S.T. Points Race Schedule**

We are waiting for Attica Raceway Park and Fremont Speedway to
solidify their 2009 racing schedules so that we can meet with them to
determine when the F.A.S.T. points events will take place. Preliminary
discussions have approximately 10 weekends where there will be back to
back F.A.S.T. points races at the two tracks. The idea is to try to
put together a weekend package for the racers traveling from out of
town. Running Friday and Saturday night with the short drive between
the two tracks will benefit those wishing to tow in and spend the
night. We are also working on a discount package at an area
hotel/restaurant for those out-of-towners. Attracting quality drivers
from points just outside of the Northern Ohio region will hinge on
making it financially feasible for these teams to travel to this
area.

** F.A.S.T. on the Buckeye Speed Zone**

On Monday November 3rd, Bryan "Swamp" Autullo was a guest on the
Buckeye Speed Zone radio show with hosts DC Bash and Brian Liskai to
talk about the point series and about the upcoming benefit concert.
You can listen to the interview by logging onto www.fastondirt.com
and clicking the player in the upper left corner of the web site. You
can also find a flier for the concert there along with other
information and updates.

EARLY ENTRIES COMING IN FOR GAMBLER'S CLASS IN ATLANTIC CITY

ATLANTIC, CITY, NJ November 6, 2008… Mike Tidaback has submitted his entry
to defend his Gambler’s Classic Indoor Auto Race title at Atlantic City’s
Boardwalk Hall.
The seventh annual event is scheduled to take place on January 16-17, 2009,
on the concrete floor, which was held in front of a near sold- out crowd last
January.
Tidaback of Little Falls, N.J., left Atlantic City last year with more than
$6,000 in his pocket after leading the final half of the 40- lap main event.
“This is a big race for us, because you run against the best in the
Northeast,” Tidaback said. “It’s like our Super Bowl.”
Tidaback, who defeated two-time winner Joey Payne of Fairlawn, N.J., became
the first American Three Quarter Midget Racing Association (ATQMRA) Series
regular to win the prestigious race.
Entry forms were sent to all race teams that entered the 2008 event. Entries
are limited to the first 100 TQ Midgets/600 cc Micro Sprints, 40 Slingshots
and 60 Senior Champ Karts.
Scott Campbell of Doylestown, Pa., is the first TQ driver to file an entry.
Former Atlantic City Slingshot winner Jesse Hartman of Flemington,
N.J., was the first driver to enter that class. Hartman competes in the Micro
Sprint division during the outdoor season.
Rich Tobias Jr. of Hershey, Pa., is the defending Slingshot winner.
Tobias donated his AC race winnings to the National Fragile X Research
Foundation.
Tamie Smith of Binghamton, N.Y., was the first Senior Champ Kart entry.
Smith has been a qualifying event winner in Atlantic City in recent years, but
she is still searching for her first AC feature victory. Chris Daley of
Pleasant Valley, N.Y., came from 21st to win the division race last January.
“Last year’s races left the fans wanting more and we’ve received
a lot of interest from drivers who want to either return or make the
first-ever appearance in Atlantic City,” said event organizer Danny
Sammons.
For the first time in event history, time trials will be held on January 15

Sammons.
For the first time in event history, time trials will be held on January 15
for all divisions. While the grandstand will not be open to the public, fans
with tickets for Friday and/or Saturday (Jan. 16-17) can obtain a restricted
Thursday-only pit pass, which will allow them access to catch all of the
pole-night activities.

Leach Brothers Motorsports #30 Closes a Chapter

Dick & Leslie Leach, along with Tom Leach, have enjoyed a very successful
and fulfilling career as owners in the local racing landscape. In 1994, Tom
wanted to try running a 358 sprint and talked Dick into giving him a hand.
They had no prior experience with sprint cars, but learned quickly. For 7
years they fielded a 358 sprint car team with 5 different drivers; Tom
Leach, Cris Eash, Darren Eash, Steve Siegel and the late Terry Leininger
piloted and won in the #30. The Leach Brothers Motorsports 358 team scored
25 A Main victories at Silver Springs Speedway, Lincoln, Williams Grove, and
the KARS National Open at Port Royal Speedway. Leach Brothers Motorsports
moved into the 410 ranks at the beginning of the 2001 season with Darren
Eash at the wheel and in August of that year tagged Doug Esh as their
driver. Making Doug part of the team, and bringing Dennis Kohler on board
in conjunction with a fantastic crew has brought the kind of success any car
owner would dream about. The Leaches have watched Doug grow into one of the
top contenders every week and struggle to describe their pride in his
accomplishments and the value of the relationship that they have with Doug,
his wife Kelly and their children. The same core group of guys; Chris
Barnes, Ryan Grady, Barry Jacobs, Jay Picking and Jim Smart have worked
endless hours in the shop and at the track for 7 years, with Chris and Ryan
being part of the team for 12 and 11 years respectively. Dick & Leslie find
it hard to express their gratitude and pride in this group for their
tireless efforts to put a winning contender on the track every week.
Together with Doug at the wheel and Dennis tuning on the car, they have
amassed 40 A Main wins at Williams Grove, Lincoln, Selinsgrove, Port Royal
and Susquehanna Speedway. Among their victories, are the 2006 Lincoln
Speedway Track Championship, the Diamond Series at Williams Grove, the
Williams Grove National Open, Kenny Weld Memorial, Jan Oppermann Memorial,
the Tuscarora 50, Mitch Smith Memorial, and the Hank Gentzler
Memorial/Manufactures Night. This past season they finally made the trip to
the Knoxville Nationals, and came away with a checkered flag in the C
Scramble and Rookie of the Year honors, a goal Doug had set for his first
trip there. The families of the crew have been greatly supportive also in
understanding their time away from home during the week and the weekends.
Special appreciation needs to go to Michelle and Ethan, Jodi and MacKenzie,
Dee, Jade and Teresa. Barry II and Amber have also given wonderful support
from running stop watches to selling team merchandise. Another important
component has been the support of Doug's family. There is always part of
the Esh family in the stands or in the pits. Their support of Doug and in
turn Team #30 has never wavered. Doug's brother, JD, came to the team with
Doug and was instrumental in lending his organizational skills and helping
to institute a maintenance program that solidified the backbone of the
team's achievements. JD is always available to lend a hand whenever or
wherever need and to mentor Doug. No team can have this kind of success
without great sponsors, and they have had many, and some that have been with
the team since the very beginning. Special thanks to Macri Concrete,
Kessler Meats, C. W. Fritz Company, BAPS Auto Paints, Bud's Spring &
Suspension, Benkowitsch & Sons Custom Counter Specialists, Ed Ross-State
Farm Insurance, Smitty's Fire Protection, Frankie's 4x4 Trucks, Jim & Teresa
Smart of I Lend Mortgage & Tara's Bridal and Special Occasion Shop, Kinard
Trucking, JB Custom Counters, The Butcher, Blooms By Vickery, Pancho's
Racing Products and Hamilton Motorsports. Leach Brothers Motorsports also
appreciates all of the Track Promoters, Safety Workers, and Officials at all
the tracks they've run; but especially those at Williams Grove and Lincoln,
their "home" tracks. Dick and Leslie now enjoy many great friendships that
have grown from racing and are looking forward to continuing them for many
years.

Leach Brothers Motorsports also sincerely thanks Duane and Debbie Lawler and
Pancho's Racing Products for their partnership this past season.
Unfortunately, our decision to back off ownership responsibilities didn't
work with the plans and goals of Pancho's. Dick & Leslie wish Duane & Deb
all the best and look forward to continuing their friendship into the
future.

wanted to build a stronger team with a more hands on approach. "With the

keep your operation close to home. Secondly, you need surround yourself
with people who share the same goals", states John. Those goals consist of

F.A.S.T. Fest Details Announced; F.A.S.T. Unveils New Logo

**F.A.S.T. Unveils New Logo**

Black Swamp Media Group's design guru Scott Porter has just put the
finishing touches on the F.A.S.T. logo to assist in the branding and
marketing of this Championship title for the 2009 racing season and
beyond. The logo will be modified once the title sponsor has been
announced and the presenting sponsor slots are filled. The new logo
design can be seen on the F.A.S.T. web site (which will be undergoing
significant changes this winter) by logging on to www.FastOnDirt.com

**F.A.S.T. Fest Details Announced; Local Charities to Benefit
**

The connection between the automobiles and rock-n-roll music was
immediate in the 1950s. And ever since that era, whether it is an
afternoon cruise or a night at the local race track, rock and racing
are still locked together as part of American culture.

That connection between loud cars and loud amplifiers takes another
step forward on the night of November 15th when three local bands
take to the stage at the Fremont Eagles (2570 N. State Street,
Fremont, OH) to help raise money for two local racing charities.

F.A.S.T., short for Fremont/Attica Sprint Title was formed to
provide a combined points championship between Fremont Speedway and
Attica Raceway Park for the first time in history beginning in 2009.
This additional point fund will benefit drivers in the winged 410
Sprint Car division. F.A.S.T. Fest was conceived to not only help
raise funds and awareness of the concept, but also to aid two local
charity efforts with deep ties to the racing community.

Local racer, Keith Whaley, makes an effort each holiday season to
feed a couple of area families who have fallen on hard times. Keith
always manages to do a great job picking out local families in need
of assistance this time of year. This year, F.A.S.T. Fest is hoping
to increase the number of good deeds Mr. Whaley will be able to
perform by accepting donations of non-perishable food items or
unopened toys in exchange for $2 off the ticket price at the door.
All items will be donated to Mr. Whaleys Checkered Flag Christmas.

In addition, a monetary donation will be given to Racers Racing for
a Cure a charity organization started by the Burkett family this
past summer after Alex Burkett passed away as the result of
pancreatic cancer. They will be selling t-shirts at this event with
proceeds going to benefit the American Cancer Society and the
American Red Cross. Alex was a long time supporter of local racing
and F.A.S.T. will show support for this cause in his honor.

The benefit concert will take place at the Eagles in Fremont November
15th. Doors open at 7pm with the first of three local rock bands
taking the stage at 8pm. Admission at the door is $10&or $8 with a
new toy or non-perishable food donation.

Newly formed Fremont band Down Under Thunder, featuring the sounds
of AC/DC, will headline the event. Local rockers Mr. Bone, along with
Mourning Wood, will also be rocking the stage.

Mourning Wood, a favorite of the club/festival set, will open the
show. A sampling of some of the more eclectic Classic Rock songs, not
often tackled by cover bands, will be featured along with some of the
more popular favorites from the likes of the Eagles, Neil Young and
the Little River Band. Outstanding vocal harmonies help to set this
band apart.

Mr. Bone, another group that is often found working the club and
festival circuit throughout Northwest Ohio, will be the second group
on stage. With a set list that ranges from Ted Nugent, to Guns and
Roses&up to modern tunes from bands like Weezer and Velvet Revolver.

Mr. Bone features two Clyde natives, Ben Archer on vocals, and Neal
Barrett on guitar&the first band either of them have played for. Matt
Miller, also from Clyde, has played drums for several different bands
over the course of two decades.

Bass player Randy R.C. Cress, is a veteran of the local and
regional rock scene. R.C. was a founding member of the Wuzz Band back
in the 70s, opening for such national acts as Brownville Station, REO
Speedwagon and Cheap Trick. The journeyman player has also been a
part of other local bands including the likes of the Noize Monkeys
and Geezer Rampage.

The nights headliner, Down Under Thunder, combines an interesting
mix of veteran and upstart musicians, all carrying the hard rock
torch lit by Aussie rockers AC/DC.

The project was the brainchild of guitar player John Shetzer. Shetzer
is a founding member of Fremont based blues rockers Rude Mood. He
also played with the Wuzz Band among others in the 70s and 80s. A big
fan of the blues sounds of S.R.V. and Tommy Castro among others,
Shetzer and some of his fellow Rude Mood band mates were looking for
an outlet for their hard-rock sides. They found it with Thunder.

The rhythm section from the Rude Mood band was on-board for the
effort. Drummer Shane McConnell, a former metal band skin-pounder
from Fremont, along with versatile bass player Gary Keaton, provides
the backbone for Thunder.

Aaron Klos, local rock guitar phenom from the Big Dead Toe band,
and singer Tim Damien Twiss from the hard rocking band Dirty
Polly round out the lineup. Fans of AC/DC will be taken on a journey
through rock history.

The bands set list focuses on the hard rock faves from AC/DCs Bon
Scott years&but also mixes in some of their later tunes&making for a
high-powered, Marshall amplifier soaked show. A few surprise tunes
are mixed in to keep toes tapping and heads banging.

With an affordable admission price&some hard rocking bands&and the
ability to help some worthy charities&F.A.S.T. Fest promises to be a
way to bring together area race fans with the local community to
benefit a good cause and to increase awareness that there is some
great weekly entertainment on tap for the 2009 racing season at both
Attica Raceway Park and Fremont Speedway. For more information, visit
the F.A.S.T. web site at www.FastOnDirt.com or visit
www.atticaracewaypark.com and www.fremontohspeedway.com for
additional information on these two great local facilities.

World of Outlaws head for bullring competition at Ocean Speedway this Friday night

World of Outlaws head for bullring competition at Ocean Speedway this Friday night

By Gary Thomas

Watsonville, CA – October 13, 2008…Bullring mania will be on tap this Friday night October 17 when the Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series invade the Ocean Speedway in Watsonville, CA for the first time since 2002. The evening of competition will mark the beginning of a California double-header in which the series will make its way down to the Thunderbowl Raceway in Tulare the following night.

The Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaw Sprint Series stars should be at their best on the tight quarter-mile bullring as traffic will come into play on countless occasions, forcing competitors to be on their heels lap after lap. It will mark the fourth time that the word’s best sprint car drivers have competed at the track after holding events there in 2000, ’01 & ’02. Those races were won respectively by Joey Saldana, Andy Hillenburg and Brad Furr, with Mark Kinser setting the track record of 10.049 during the first visit in ’00.

Leading the way for the local talent will be two-time and current Ocean Speedway track champion Brent Kaeding from nearby Campbell. The 13-time King of California started off the year slowly by his standards, but has picked up the pace rapidly and drove to four victories in his last four Ocean Speedway Wright One 360 Series starts, including a big win at the 48th running of the Johnny Key Classic in late August. Kaeding also had a great showing at the 55th Gold Cup in Chico where he raced his Al’s Roofing Supply No. 69 to a third place finish on his prelim night and a fourth place result during the 40 lap finale on Saturday.

Another driver coming into the Ocean Speedway with momentum on his side is two-time and current King of California Jonathan Allard of Chico. The 32 year-old driver recently picked up his first career Fall Nationals title at Silver Dollar Speedway with a thrilling charge from the 13th starting position aboard his Williams Motorsports No. 0. Like Kaeding, Allard also had a very solid showing at the Gold Cup in Chico where he was the top local driver by finishing runner-up during his prelim main event and came back to score a very strong third place finish on Saturday night. Earlier this year he wrapped up his second King of California title, becoming just the third driver in GSC history to win multiple championships.

Los Angeles racer Tyler Walker has had a strong season at the Ocean Speedway and is sure to be a contender while driving the NMI Industrial Contractors No. 24. The always exciting driver captured a pair of Golden State Challenge Series victories at the Watsonville based track this season and came back last month to dominate a California Civil War Series event at the speedway, en route to leading all 30 laps to pick up the win. Walker also made one appearance with the Wright One 360 Series at Ocean Speedway this year and brought home a third place finish in the main event. He has put together a very solid season overall and also finished runner-up in the Golden State Challenge Series points, tallying five wins with the club.

Former King of California Tim Kaeding has had another great season and will look for a good showing when the Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaws Sprint Series convenes at the Ocean Speedway on Friday. The locally based San Jose driver led the Golden State Challenge Series in the win category by scoring six wins this year, with three of those since rejoining the Roth Motorsports team in Mid-July. Included in those victories this season was his second career Dave Bradway Jr. Memorial win in May, as well as a third place finish at the Jim Raper Memorial Dirt Cup in Skagit during the month of June. The 30 year-old racer hasn’t found victory lane at Ocean Speedway yet this year, but has always been strong at the track and his previous two starts netted podium finishes after starting in the fifth row each time.

Other locals sure to be in the thick of things will include Campbell’s Bud Kaeding, Scotts Valley’s Evan Suggs, Los Gatos’ Jason Statler, Easton’s Tommy Tarlton and Fremont’s Shane Golobic. Ocean Speedway regulars Bud Kaeding, Statler and Suggs have all picked up Wright One Series wins this season and ran top five in points at the track as well, with Statler finishing third and Suggs & Kaeding tying for fourth.

Young Golobic has put together a good season, which includes making the Gold Cup Saturday night main event in Chico and a Golden State Challenge Series victory at Ocean Speedway in May, where he just missed out on a clean sweep by finishing second in his heat race. Tarlton comes into the event with momentum on his side after runner-up finishes at the track during the Johnny Key Classic, the Civil War Series event last month and is also coming off an impressive $4,000 win at the Kings Speedway less than a few weekends ago.

The Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaws Sprint Series is coming down to its final handful of races and two-time defending champion Donny Schatz is in position to join Steve Kinser & Sammy Swindell as just the third driver in WOO history to win three driving titles. The Fargo, ND racer has had another outstanding year and has claimed 20 overall wins this season aboard the Tony Stewart Racing, Armor All No. 15, which includes claiming his third straight win at the Knoxville Nationals, joining Kinser as only the second driver to win the event on three consecutive occasions. If he were to win the WOO championship this season, Schatz would also join Kinser as just the second driver in history to win the Outlaw title three straight times.
Clovis, CA’s Jason Meyers will look for redemption following his last California visit, which left him with much disappointment after being taken out by a spun lapped car while leading the main event at the 55th Gold Cup Race of Champions. “Hotfoot” will have extra motivation at the Ocean Speedway as GLR Investments, one of the main supporters of Meyers’ No. 14 racing team, will be the presenting sponsor of the event on Friday. Earlier this season Meyers made a visit to Watsonville during a Golden State Challenge event and proceeded to win his heat race, the dash and lead all 30 laps in the feature to pick up his 12th career series victory. The defending Trophy Cup champ comes into the Ocean Speedway sitting second in World of Outlaw points with eight wins with the series.

The inaugural World of Outlaw event in Watsonville was captured by Brownsburg, IN’s Joey Saldana, who at the time was driving the Hemsaw No. 17 sprinter, but this time around will return to the quarter-mile bullring aboard the potent Kasey Kahne Racing, Budweiser sponsored No. 9 machine. “The Brownsburg Bullet” comes into the Ocean Speedway sitting third in WOO points with five wins, but has had a handful of other possible victories cut short by bad luck, including cutting a tire while sitting out front at the Kings Royal in July at Eldora.

Twenty-time World of Outlaw champ Steve Kinser has won at a large amount of the tracks that the series visits, but has yet to find victory lane at the Ocean Speedway and will be looking to change that on Friday. The Bloomington, IN driver currently ranks fourth in WOO points and has raced his Q-Oils No. 11 to six main event wins this season. Fellow veteran driver Jac Haudenschild has seen resurgence this season while driving the Carnahan Motorsports No. R19. “The Wild Child” recently scored his third career Gold Cup Race of Champions victory and is always at his best on tight-bullrings, much like the one seen at Ocean Speedway.

Other top World of Outlaw Sprint Series drivers expected on Friday night include former California driver Paul McMahan who now resides in Nashville, TN; as well as Findlay, Ohio’s Chad Kemenah; St. Mary’s NSW, Aust’s Kerry Madsen; Terry McCarl of Altoona, Iowa; Owasso, OK’s Daryn Pittman, Bloomington, IN’s Kraig Kinser and more.

The front and back gates will both open at noon this Friday at the Ocean Speedway with tickets being $45 at the front gate. Qualifying is expected to get underway around 6pm with racing to follow. The Ocean Speedway is located on the Santa Cruz County Fairgrounds in Watsonville, California. For more info on the track visit http://www.oceanspeedway.com
