2007 Sponsor Introductions for Mike Linder

What is red, has a number three on it, and every once in a while goes super fast? Well, that would be Mike Linder’s sprint car. Now that the motor from Paul Kistler is plugged in, he is ready to race. That is, once the tool chest gets re-stocked after some heavy duty pillaging.
With every season the question that begs to be asked. How in the world am I going to pay for all of this? Well with sponsors like Mike has, the question does get smaller. Below is an introduction to some of the great people who have decided that Mike Linder will be their driver for the 2007 season.
Should anyone want to become involved with Mike Linder and Andy James Motorsports you can contact me at zeakemedia@yahoo.com.

Stewart Smokes Chili Bowl Nationals Field

Stewart Smokes Chili Bowl Nationals FieldTony Stewart Racing, Chevrolet Capture Chili Bowl Victory
TULSA, Okla., (Jan. 15, 2007) - Owner/driver Tony Stewart led his Chevrolet-powered Tony Stewart Racing (TSR) team to an impressive win in Saturday night's 21st annual O'Reilly Chili Bowl Midget Nationals at the Tulsa Expo Center.Stewart started the A-Feature from fifth-place after locking himself into the event finale with an impressive second-place finish in Friday's preliminary race. He took the lead on lap 10 of the 50-lap feature and never looked back, despite several caution periods that bunched up the field. When the checkered flag dropped, Stewart and his No. 20 TSR/Chevrolet/Bass Pro Shops machine had a straightaway lead over Interstate Batteries driver J.J. Yeley - his NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series teammate at Joe Gibbs Racing - and a second Golden Driller trophy to go alongside the one he earned at the 2002 Chili Bowl."This win was probably a little less dramatic on the track than in 2002, but it was probably three times more dramatic off the track," said Stewart, as this year marked his first Chili Bowl win as both owner and driver. "To win in one of my own cars and to get our first win for Chevrolet - I can't think of a better coming out party for our new sponsor. To have the weekend we had for Chevrolet and to win the biggest midget race of the year, that's what I'm excited about." The victory gave Tony Stewart Racing, Chevrolet and Bass Pro Shops their first feature win of 2007. "If you came to our shop three weeks ago, we had one car built out of the five that we brought here," said Stewart, whose Chevrolet-sponsored team fielded four cars for drivers Tracy Hines, Levi Jones, Josh Richards and Stewart, as well as one backup. "In a three-week period, Steve Smith and Hawk Racing Engines worked really hard getting five motors ready, and our team really put some long hours in to get the other four cars ready to come here. To be able to come to the Chili Bowl and not only win the event, but start two cars in the A-Main, really says a lot about the dedication of this race team." Hines joined Stewart in Saturday night's event finale, and while battling a case of the flu, battled his way from 16th in the 25-car field to finish a respectable 10th. Hines earned his way into the A-Feature via a strong second-place finish in the preceding B-Main at the wheel of his No. 21 TSR/Chevrolet/Bass Pro Shops midget."I'm glad we made the A-Feature, but it would've been great to be up front battling for the win," Hines said. "We had a good car going into the A. We were able to move forward throughout the race. I would have liked to have finished fourth on Thursday night to be locked into the feature, but we had a good race. The Tony Stewart Racing team worked hard this week and we had a good first event with Chevrolet power." Levi Jones also competed in the second B-Main on Saturday, finishing in the 18th position. After being caught up in two spins during green flag action, Jones had to restart from the tail of the field. Despite not advancing to the finale, he earned Tony Stewart Racing's first event win on Wednesday night, taking that night's B-Main in the No. 21 TSR/Chevrolet/Bass Pro Shops entry. "It was really cool to post the first win for Chevrolet," Jones said. "We tried some things out on Wednesday and found ways to improve. Even though we missed Wednesday's feature, I think we learned a lot that helped the team out on Saturday. The Chili Bowl is a really tough event. You have to have everything just right to navigate such a talented field. I think we learned a lot from this race and I'm looking forward to getting the season started." Josh Richards wrapped up his second Chili Bowl appearance with a 10th-place finish in the first G-Main on Saturday. Driving the No. 20R TSR/Chevrolet/Bass Pro Shops entry, Richards enjoyed the experience and is looking forward to returning next year. "I really want to thank Tony Stewart and Chevrolet for the opportunity to come back to the Chili Bowl this year," Richards said. "We got behind in our heat race on Friday and that cost us, but I learned a lot each time I got in the seat. I really enjoy this event and I'd love to get the opportunity to compete again next year." Mercer Raceway Park 2006 Awards Banquet

MERCER RACEWAY PARK CROWNS FELMLEE, GUIDACE, BOOHER, WAGNER, & DUNN CHAMPIONS AT 2006 AWARDS BANQUET; NUMEROUS SPECIAL AWARDS HANDED OUT
By Mike Leone

January 13, 2007 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Hermitage, PA…Mercer Raceway Park celebrated the 2006 season in grand style Saturday night, January 13, as the beautiful Normandy Banquet Center in Hermitage, Pa. played host for the fourth time to the annual awards banquet and dinner.

The top ten drivers in each of the four divisions received their point fund monies and plaques. The following 2006 track champions also received an engraved Mercer Raceway Park championship watch compliments of Kidd’s Jewelry in Greenville, Pa. and an embroidered jacket: Bob Felmlee-RoadRunner & Lake Road Auto Sales Sprint Cars, Frank Guidace-American Racer/Lias Tire Modifieds, Brian Booher-Tire Express Stock Cars, and Bryan Wagner-Maurer’s Trading Post Strictly Stocks.

For the eighth consecutive year under owner Vicki Emig, Mercer Raceway Park continued its tradition of honoring special achievements at its banquet. Five of those types of awards were once again given out Saturday night.

The “Legacy” Award honors and remembers the late Bill Emig. With the exception of family, this year’s recipient knew Bill better than anyone. Frank Guidace worked on Bill’s race cars as a youngster and later would take a Six-Cylinder Modified from his race shop and use as his first race car. The 2006 season was a career year for Guidace winning his first championship of any kind and winning two of the biggest Modified races of the season in the Jeff Hoffman Memorial and “Little Guy Nationals”.

Living legends are those that will forever be held in high respect by those that enjoyed their excellence. This year’s “Living Legend” Award was bestowed to Ron Eperthener, Sr. Though he was never fortunate enough to win a championship, he won many races and the Grove City native will always be remembered for his yellow #333 Coupes and Late Models. His son Ron currently competes in the Modified division and his grandson Matt Kocher, granddaughter Olivia Eperthener, and son-in-law Barry Bulfone have all raced in years past. The Grove City, Pa. is a driver that embodies everything good about Mercer Raceway Park.

The “Horizon” Award was put in place to recognize drivers whose careers shine as brightly as the horizon. This year, for the first time, the award was handed out to three drivers. The first recipient was Bryan Wagner, who was actually a “true” rookie having never competed before. The teenager swept the double features on May 6 for his first career wins on a night we remember his uncle Dave Wagner. He went on to do the unthinkable winning the title in the Strictly Stock division.

The second “Horizon” recipient was Mike Pegher, Jr. Making his first attempt as a Mercer regular, the Wexford, Pa. youngster captured a track-high eight wins despite missing four races and ran side-by-side and as clean as can be with the veteran Mercer racers earning everyone’s respect.

The third “Horizon” winner was the 17-year-old Danny Holtgraver. The Pittsburgh, Pa. driver jumped from the Micro Sprints into the mighty 410 Sprints. He had a season-best runner-up on May 27 and had nine top 10s. He also finished runner-up in the National 410 Sprint Car Rookie-of-the-Year.
Two “Outstanding Achievement” Awards were handed out. Riki Likowski earned his not on performance, but by his effort and dedication. The driver towed each week from Hollis, New Hampshire- some 9 hours and nearly 600 miles each way. Likowski never missed any of the 18 nights despite racing with a broken foot one night and putting a car together after destroying his car in a World of Outlaw show in New York in a midweek show.
The second “Outstanding Achievement” was given to Andy Buckley. The Stoneboro, Pa. driver moved ahead of Alan Dellinger with his 22nd career win on the Stock Car win list since the track reopened in 1994. He’s also won at least one race for each of the last six seasons.

The “Majestic” Award honors those that have made grand, noble, and dignified gestures on behalf of Mercer Raceway Park and in general. The husband-wife duo of Walter and Eleanore Patton received the award for their dedication over the past five seasons. Though they didn’t start out as race fans, but as the aunt and uncle of Vicki Emig, they’ve become two of the most well-liked employees. They’re behind the scenes people arriving early and some of the last to leave.

The “Appreciation” Award was given to another dedicated employee. Marilyn Benic has worked at the speedway every night since the 1997 season working in the track office doing various tasks such as answering the phones, the driver payoffs, and the track program. Benic, as well as Likowski and the Pattons will also be receiving engraved watches compliments of Kidd’s Jewelry.

Bob Felmlee captured his third Sprint Car title at the speedway, which have now come in three different decades in the RoadRunner & Lake Road Auto Sales-sponsored division. The Franklin, Pa. driver was also the 1989 and 1997 Mercer champion. Felmlee started off the year on a tear and went on to capture three victories, six heat wins, 12 top 5s, and 16 top 10s in his World of Wheels/Lutz Auto Body/Vinyl Graphics-sponsored #6.

Arnie Kent had a career year with four wins and has now has won a feature in each of the last eight seasons. He’s also finished second in the points four times in the last seven seasons. Defending champion Rod George was shutout of victory lane, but was in the championship hunt until engine woes on the final night. Fourth through tenth in points with wins in parentheses were Rob Eyler (4), Skip Dougherty (1), Danny Holtgraver, Todd Bauer (1), Tom Quarterson, Riki Likowski, and Mike Dehner. Other winners were Gary Edwards, Scott Bonnell, Mark Murphy, Brian Ellenberger, and Mat Neely.

Frank Guidace had a stellar season in the American Racer/Lias Tire Modifieds to collect his first title of any kind. The Mercer, Pa. driver had four wins including the $2,000 Jeff Hoffman Memorial and T3 All-Star Series “Little Guy Nationals” in his G&G Auto Outlet #1G. Despite sitting out April 15 due to engine woes and being mired in 14th in points at the end of April, Guidace stormed back to win the title by a mere three points on the strength of eight heat wins, 16 top 5s, and 19 top 10s. It was a very emotional night for Guidace as he remembered everyone who got him to where he’s at. Guidace returned just hours before the banquet from Atlantic City where his 2007 car is on display at the Motorsports Expo.

Mike Stine made the long tow each week from central Pa. and was rewarded with a runner-up in points and four wins in his first full-time Mercer season. Steve Young was shutout of victory lane, but led the points for much of the year until a late season DNF. Kevin Hoffman also led the points during the summer and had three wins in his first run at the championship. Defending champion Gary Smoker led the points in April and had a strong year with four victories and fifth in points. Completing the top 10 with wins in parentheses were Jimmy Holden, Brad Rapp (5), Matt Reeher, Garrett Krummert, and Kevin Green. Other winners were Bill Adams and Billy VanPelt.

For the second straight year, Brian Booher topped the Tire Express Stock Cars. The Sandy Lake, Pa. racer had another phenomenal season in the Terry Hoover-owned, Ed & Jerry’s Auto Service/Harry & Tim’s Roofing-sponsored #00H with six wins, eight heat wins, three B mains, 16 top 5s, and 19 top 10s. Booher has now won 13 of his 20 career wins in the last two seasons.
Two-time champion Andy Buckley had another typical strong season with three wins to finish runner-up in points. Bill Lanigan had a career best season to finish third and is still looking for his first career win. Mike Pegher, Jr. was fourth with eight wins and may have contended for the title had he not missed four nights. Veteran Terry Wheeler completed the top five and had two wins. Sixth through tenth with wins in parentheses were Rick Norco (1), Andy Thompson, Bryan Shaffer, Mark Sanders, and Ryan Moyer. Other winners were Kevin Thompson, Doug Iorio II, Shaun Hooks, Tim Deutsch, and Rusty Wheeler.

Bryan Wagner was crowned the third different Strictly Stock Champion in as many seasons. The New Wilmington, Pa. teenage rookie had an amazing season with seven wins, seven heat wins, 20 top 5s, and a perfect 24-for-24 in top 10s driving his family-owned #56. He received the trademark championship shotgun from Maurer’s Trading Post. Second through tenth in points with wins in parentheses were Paul Reiser (3), Dave Airgood, Jr. (5), Carl Ealy (7), William Morrison III, Dave Bass, Curt Bish, Sr. (2), Josh Seippel, Randy Ealy, and Bill Kluck, Jr.
Also being recognized for his championship was Russ Dunn. The Fenelton, Pa. driver captured the E-Mod seven-race series title with a victory and perfect attendance in the #47. Big Daddy Speed Center, Bassett Wheels, and Precise Racing Products awarded certificates varying from $25-$60 for various drivers in each division. Kudos went out to the nine drivers with perfect attendance as they received a certificate to recognize their dedication to the speedway in 2006.
Corporate sponsor announcer Jeff Wimer emceed the event for the first night and thanked the sponsors, employees, press, drivers, owners, and all of the fans for making 2004 another success. Track announcer Mike Dutko became ill just over a week ago and was just released from the hospital a couple days ago and was unable to emcee the event for the first time in his 27-year announcing career.

Special thanks went out to the Mercer East End and Jefferson Fire Departments along with Mesaros Towing. The 2007 season was previewed with many upcoming special events. It was officially announced that the Strictly Stocks were dropped from competition and replaced by the front-wheel-drive four-cylinder Mini Stocks. Bill Bauer of the TUSA Star’s Championship Tour was on hand and spoke about the Mod Lites, which will be on the weekly schedule in 2007. A DJ closed out the banquet until midnight with live music for everyone’s dancing and listening pleasures.

For the third time in his career, Bob Felmlee of Franklin, Pa., earned the Super Sprint track title at Tri-City in his World of Wheels Maxim No. 6. Felmlee’s other titles came in 1996 and 1998. He held off a hard-charging Todd Bauer for the 2006 championship. Brent Covell, Rod George, and Gale Ruth Jr. rounded out the top five in points. “It’s been a good year and a lot of fun,” said Felmlee. “I want to thank my entire crew, my family and all of my sponsors. I stood up there at Tri-City for many years (after my injury in 1999) and thought I could (win a title) again. I knew I could do this, and we’re looking forward to a great season in 2007.” Felmlee also honored his crew chief and former racer Chad Reitz and retiring crew member Bob Graham with championship jackets. Scott Snow of 4 Your Car Connection surprised all in attendance by awarding Felmlee and his crew additional money, embroidered championship hats, and a $300 gift certificate towards a meal and title celebration at a local restaurant. In the DIRT Modifieds, Kevin Bolland of New Brighton, Pa., earned his second track title driving his Cintas Uniform/Bolland Machine/Brighton Hot Dog Shoppe Bicknell No. 777. Bolland also was the champion in 2000. For the third year in a row, BRP Modified Tour champion Rex King finished second in points. Jeremiah Shingledecker, Joe Crawford and Chris Schiffer rounded out the top five. “I want to dedicate this season to my mom, Rosalie,” said Bolland, whose mother died in early September following a long bout with leukemia. “These championships are hard to come by. It’s not about me, it’s about our team, sponsor and fans.” In addition to his Tri-City championship laurels, Bolland also received awards from Tri-City promoters Mike Graham and Roger Crick, and Lernerville Speedway general manager Gary Risch Jr., for this point title in the Schwab’s Ford/Precise Racing/Teo Pro Car Big Block Modified Challenge Series. The eight-race series involved both tracks. Bolland also was honored with Tri-City’s 2006 Special Achievement Award. Overall, Bolland earned 10 feature wins, two track titles (Tri-City and Lernerville), and the Challenge Series title in 2006. Despite the death of his mother, Bolland and his team also performed well in late season DIRT Modified events at Cayuga County (N.Y.) Fair Speedway and Williams Grove (Pa.) Speedway. For the second year in a row, Rex King of Bristolville, Ohio, received the #1 Cochran Cavalcade Big Block Modified award from track announcer and Cavalcade statistician Walt Wimer. King topped all drivers in the division throughout the region to earn the prestigious award for the second time in his career. Brent Rhebergen of Clymer, N.Y., received accolades for his third career E Mod track title at Tri-City, this time driving Shawn Shingledecker’s Lucky Hills Golf Course/Madara Equipment Pierce No. 45S. Rhebergen scored four wins and defeated his teammate, Shingledecker, for the championship. Jim Frontz, David Atkinson and Matt Lux rounded out the top five in the final point standings. Rhebergen also collected awards for winning the 2006 Maloney Tool & Mold Hard Charger title. “I want to dedicate my season to my dad, who died in September,” said Rhebergen during a lengthy acceptance speech. “The Shingledecker family is like my direct family now, and they helped fill that void when my dad couldn’t be there this season. I want to congratulate all the other drivers in the class. The Shingledecker crew worked hard with two cars and put together a great group of sponsors. I also want to thank my family and my Late Model crew.” In addition to Rhebergen, Mike Potosky of Guys Mills, Pa., accepted awards for winning the 2006 Fame RV Center E Series title. Potosky earned his second career title on the E Series, which included a special series of four races at Tri-City for the E Mod division. Bobby Whitling of Seneca, Pa., was feted for his third career championship in the Pro Stocks. Known as “The Seneca Slider,” Whitling won five features aboard his E&K Equipment/Dulaney’s Garage Chevrolet No. 7W during his final full season of Pro Stock competition. Whitling announced that he will focus his efforts on his new E Mod team in 2007. Whitling, who also won the championship in 1999 and 2002, topped Doug Iorio II, Dave Ferringer, Scott Myers and Jason Engles for the 2006 title. “I’d like to thank my sponsors because we couldn’t do this without them,” said Whitling. “I want to thank my crew also. Racing every week, especially running two cars each night at the end of season, takes a lot of time. I enjoy racing the Pro Stocks and have a lot of fun in this class. It’s hard to leave the class because I enjoy it so much. We’ll run the E Mod most of this coming season, and we’ll run some of the special Pro Stock races as well.” Gerry Bruce of Franklin, Pa., who was the 2005 Pro Stock track champion, accepted the championship plaque for the 2006 William R. Karns Plumbing, Heating & Air Conditioning Detroit Iron Pro Stock Series. Bruce received the honor from rookie Jackson Humanic, who stepped aside to let Bruce drive his car in the four-race series. For the second time in his career, Jeff Manners of Cherrytree, Pa., received awards for the Thundercar title. Manners, who won the initial Thundercar championship in 2003, won six features in his Jerry’s Auto Repair/Cherrytree General Store Buick No. 16. Manners topped Josh Seippel, Bill Myers, Curt Bish Sr., and Charlie McMillen in the final point rundown. “I want to thank my crew, my family and all of my sponsors,” said Manners. “I’ve had a blast racing in the Thundercars. This season, I’ll be racing for Bob Tarr in the Pro Stocks, and I wish all the Thundercar drivers the best of luck. This is a fun class.” Each division champion received a championship trophy and jackets. Felmlee, Bolland, Rhebergen and Whitling each also received point fund money and a championship ring from Kay Jewelers of Cranberry, Pa. Each division and series champion also gave his respective division sponsor a special award from the track. Diana Keisel of R.N. Goss Gas drew Bob Felmlee’s name as the winner of the 2006 Lincoln Welder Ironman Award. Felmlee, Kevin Bolland and Bobby Whitling each completed 100% of the laps in heat and feature race competition in their respective divisions, and all three were eligible for the top prize, a free Lincoln Welder. Five drivers received rookie honors from track officials. Scott Rodgers of Kossuth, Pa., (Super Sprints), Rex King Jr. of Bristolville, Ohio, (DIRT Modifieds), Jason Johns of Oil City, Pa., (E Mods), Jackson Humanic of Titusville, Pa., (Pro Stocks), and Bill Kluck Jr. of Oil City, Pa., (Thundercars) were named Rookies of the Year. The 2006 Most Improved Driver Award was presented to E Mod driver Evan Taylor of Saltsburg, Pa. The second generation racer was impressive in his sophomore season with three top five feature finishes, including a runner-up finish, and a ninth place finish in the E Mod point standings. Rod George of Kittanning, Pa., was named the winner of the 2006 Hard Luck Award. The three-time Super Sprint track champion was in the hunt for a fourth title when engine woes started to plague his team in late July. As a result, George fell out of contention in the point chase. The 2006 Tri-City Speedway Lifetime Dedication Award was presented to retired flagman Greg Wheeling of Franklin, Pa. Wheeling was a flagman for over 25 years at many area tracks, including the last 11 seasons at Tri-City, before he announced his retirement at the end of the season. Pennewell Sandblasting & Painting of Oil City, Pa., awarded $100 gift certificates for chassis reconditionings to Brent Matus (Super Sprints), Chris Schiffer (DIRT Modifieds), Jim Frontz (E Mods), Matt Thomas (Pro Stocks), and John K. Miller II (Thundercars). Those drivers were chosen by random draw prior to the banquet. Vinyl Graphics Unlimited of Shippenville, Pa., awarded $200 gift certificates for car letterings to Andy McKisson (Super Sprints), Jeremiah Shingledecker (DIRT Modifieds), Russ Dempsey (E Mods), Doug Iorio II (Pro Stocks), and Josh Seippel (Thundercars). Those drivers were also chosen by random draw prior to the banquet. Other contingency sponsors included Pennzoil, Hoosier Tire, Precise Racing, Big Daddy’s Speed Center, Bassett Wheels, and the Oakland Township Volunteer Fire Department. Tri-City’s Public Relations Director Brian Spaid closed the banquet with news that the track will open for the 2007 season on Sunday April 29th with a five-division program of the 4 Your Car Connection Super Sprints, Schwab’s Ford DIRT Modifieds, RPM Auto Sales/Shawgo Real Estate E Mods, E.F. Rogers Plumbing & Heating Pro Stocks and Klapec Auto Body Thundercars. All division sponsors are returning this season. There will be two nights of vacation for the track management and race teams on July 15th and August 26th. With the folding of the National Sprint Tour (NST), it will not return to Tri-City in 2007. No special sprint car races are scheduled at the track to date. Tri-City will continue to be sanctioned by DIRT MotorSports in 2007. The track will join with Lernerville as the DIRT Modifieds compete in the new Western Region of DIRT Northeast. More news will be released in coming weeks, including a point fund for the regional title. Both tracks will also continue to feature the Big Block Modified Challenge Series. There is the possibility that the dual track series will expand, and further announcements may be forthcoming. As for special events, Tri-City will run the 4th Annual Rankin & Son Excavating Dick Rankin Memorial on Sunday May 27th. The date for the 15th Annual Kodiak Memorial is not set at this time. In the E Mod ranks, unless a new sponsor steps forward within the next month, the E Series will come to an end after three seasons. Track officials want to ensure that a point fund exists to entice E Mod drivers across the region to compete at the half-mile Venango County oval. The All Star 30 will return as part of the Oil Region Labor Day Classic. Willam R. Karns Plumbing, Heating & Air Conditioning will return as title sponsor of the Detroit Iron Pro Stock Series. The four-race schedule will include the Oil Region Labor Day Classic and the 11th Annual CSOnline Applefest 100, which will close out the season on Sunday September 16th. That event will also include the 5th Annual Apple Core 20 for the Thundercars. The World of Outlaws 360OTC Late Model Series will compete at Tri-City on September 1st and 2nd for the annual Oil Region Labor Day Classic. This two-day event has quickly developed into an annual pilgrimage for Late Model fans, and will again include the 3rd Annual South Ghetto celebration on Saturday night. In other news, track officials are also searching for a sponsor of the 2007 Hard Charger Award. The award honors the driver that scores the most passing points in the feature races of all divisions combined. R.N. Goss Gas and Lincoln Electric will combine forces for the third season in a row for the Lincoln Welders Ironman Award. At the end of the season, a new Lincoln Welder will be presented to the race team that completes the greatest percentage of laps in heat and feature race competition in all divisions combined. More news about the upcoming season will be released in coming weeks, including the 2007 schedule
