Sean Michael Joins Brother Curt on #5G team‏

BILL GALLAGHER/CURT MICHAEL 5G TEAM ADD SEAN MICHAELTO LEAD TEAM

Valley Forge, PA (December 5, 2009)…Michael brothers, Curt and Sean, are teaming up once again—this time for the Bill Gallagher-owned #5G URC 360 sprint car team.

Next season, Sean will serve as crew chief and mechanic for his brother Curt. Sean will replace Todd Rittenhouse, who is retiring after 19 years with the team.

“Sean has been instrumental--and inspirational--throughout my entire career, helping me set up my cars and supporting me. I’m looking forward to working with him again,” said Curt. “And of course I want to thank Todd for his many years of service and the championship win in ‘08. I’ve really enjoyed my time working with him. I wish Todd and his family the best.”

Curt and Sean ended last season working together at Lowe’s Motor Speedway, Charlotte, NC, for October’s World of Outlaws World Finals, when Curt was in the seat of the #27 Heffner Racing Enterprises car. Sean had been the main driver of the #27 until a devastating crash last May sidelined him for the remainder of the season. Still recuperating from a shattered knee, Sean will drive select races for Heffner Racing next season, providing they don’t conflict with the #5G schedule. No word on who will pilot the #27 full time.

“I’ve always been involved with prepping my race cars, but while rebuilding the #27 during my recuperation, I realized that I enjoyed working on the cars almost as much as driving them,” said Sean. “Curt and I have raced together and worked together and I look forward to doing so again. We’re both grateful to Bill for giving us the opportunity.”

Sean is a former URC champion himself and Curt says having his brother on the team is comforting for a number of reasons.

“Sean has always been mechanically inclined; he can weld and drive the truck and trailer, so the equipment will be well taken care of. I won’t have to worry about anything,” Curt stated.

H&H MOTORSPORTS, KQW, AND GILMORE FLOORS PARTNER TO PRESENT SECOND SEASON OF “TURN 5” FOR DRIVERS AND FANS

December 4, 2009 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Franklin PA…Tri-City Speedway’s popular pre-race radio show, “Turn 5”, returns to the fast half-mile track for the 2010 race season with help from first-time track sponsor, Gilmore Floors.

Today, Gilmore Floors, a licensed contractor for commercial and residential properties serving the Western PA area, was announced as the Official 2010 Sponsor of the popular KQW 96.3FM pre-race radio show, “Turn 5” for its second season at the track and on-air.

“Turn 5” began as an idea at the beginning of the 2009 race season between Tri-City Speedway owner, Rich Hetrick and KQW Sports Director, Joe Lodanosky. The FM show concentrates on entertaining race fans with up-close and personal driver interviews and getting the drivers publicity and airtime to talk about their rivals, point standings, sponsors, and dirt track racing in general.

“The original idea was to have a pre-race show a few times at the track to get drivers on the air and their voices into the stands,” said H&H Motorsports owner Rich Hetrick. The positive responses from the drivers, sponsors, and the fans were so significant that H&H and KQW decided to host the show at the track every racing Sunday.

With captivating co-hosts Joe Lodanosky, Sports Director at KQW, and Brian Spaid, Track Announcer at Tri-City Speedway, “Turn 5” was a hit the first night it aired. “It’s a hit not only on air, but in the grandstands and pit area at the track as well. It’s the unique combination of personalities between Joe, Brian, and the drivers that keep the crowd listening and the audience tuning in,” said Hetrick.

“Turn 5” is an original and important asset to Tri-City Speedway. H&H is pleased to welcome Gilmore Floors into the action.

Dewease leaves 30c team‏

As the 2009 season winds down, teams will be making changes in an effort to improve their level of success for the coming season. Personnel changes are a part of the sprint car game, and the 30c team and crew chief Kirk Dewease have decided that a change was necessary. The split between the two is an amicable one with both sides mutually agreeing to go their separate ways.

The change opens up opportunities for both parties. Kirk Dewease is an established talent behind the wrench, and is pursuing options that could allow him to work for another top race team. The 30c team is a contender at any event, and will be looking to fill the void left by Kirk’s departure.

How Speed Camera Detectors Keep You Under Police Radar

Today’s radar detector technology helps drivers of every kind; from the sprinter to the business commuter. With today’s GPS-enabled speed camera detectors, drivers can have the best of GPS tracking in their vehicles along with an alert when approaching photo enforcement devices. These detectors go a step farther than that by also providing long-range radar detection for city driving and highway traveling. Here are the ins and outs of speed camera detectors and how they can work best for any driver on the road today.

Cities and freeways all over the country are utilizing machines to nab speeders and red-light runners. This is a good thing for the safety of everyone on the road. But for the professional driver, it can be a nuisance. As unexpected tickets show up in the mail, the frustration over not knowing what was coming can really add up. These devices are not intended to help drivers beat the law and avoid punishment. However, for the distracted driver, an accidental ticket can be easily avoided by having one of these GPS-enabled speed camera detectors mounted on the dash.

The first way they help is by detecting the radar bands and signals emitted from virtual speed traps. Though they work wonders for detecting police radar as well, the real benefit is protecting you from what you can’t see. Red light cameras and speed cameras can literally be mounted anywhere, even in the most unexpected of places. These speed camera detectors can tell you, well ahead of time, that you are approaching one and will give you the chance to slow down within speed limits (or stop in time for a red light). End result: fewer moving violations.

The next advantage to having a speed camera detector is that these units all come with GPS. Though they don’t work like a Garman does to tell you where to go in order to get somewhere, the unit is tracked by GPS to tell the driver 2 vital things: where the virtual speed traps are and how fast the vehicle is traveling. In units like the Escort Passport 9500ix for instance (the top-rated unit on the market right now), pre-loaded virtual speed trap information is already programmed into the device so that no matter where you are in North America, this unit has you covered.

Even better than that, however, these amazing devices also alert drivers to intersections they are approaching that are known to have either red light cameras or speed detectors installed. This helps drivers avoid going too fast or running right through a red light due to distraction. GPS detectors use Global Positioning Systems to also track how fast a vehicle is traveling. The unit alerts the driver when they are approaching a speed trap and briefly shows how fast they were traveling at the time of the alert. Drivers can add new speed trap locations and red light cameras into the database and it will remember that area and alert the driver from that point on.

Though there are many GPS detectors on the market today, some work better than others. Knowing what features to look for can help you make the very best choice for your particular needs on the road.

410 SPRINTS TO BATTLE AT RACEWAY 7 FOR FIRST TIME SINCE 2003

410 SPRINTS TO BATTLE AT RACEWAY 7 FOR FIRST TIME SINCE 2003
by Jim Balentine

For the first time since Gary Kreiss Jr. won the York Sprint feature on September 5th 2003, the alcohol burning mud slinging 410 SPRINT CARS will return to RACEWAY 7 as part of the OPEN WHEEL SHOOTOUT on FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 25th 2009. The event will pay $2,000 to win with $150 to start and all non qualifiers will get $100 tow money.

Also on the card will be the return of the DAVE BLANEY founded LIMITED SPRINT division which races weekly at SHARON SPEEDWAY and specials at surrounding tracks. The always exciting EMODS will compete in a $1,000 to win show along with the MINI STOCKS and ENDURO STOCKS. All three will be point events.

"We have been trying to get the 410 SPRINTS back up to 7 for many years", says track announcer Jim Balentine, and with big events that Friday at McKean County and also MERCER we thought it was the perfect time to do this. Plus since ATTICA is done , and LERNERVILLE has a show in October it will be a perfect opportunity to show the Northern Ohio/ NW Pa crowd what 410 Sprint car racing is all about. TROY PRESTON set the all time track record in 2003 with a lap of 15.468 which is 2 mph faster than the SUPER LATE record..so they do fly around the place pretty well."

The LIMITED SPRINTS now in their sixth year of competition were founded by DAVE and DALE BLANEY as a cost effective way for someone to get into the driver's seat and not spend alot of money. The class run a spec motor and right rear spec tire and smaller spec wings and their big brothers."the competiton is real close in this division", says Balentine, " they are only 2 seconds slower than the 410s ..but the field rarely gets spread out and very few times are cars lapped....plus there have been over six different winners at Sharon alone this year...and that makes for exciting racing." Guy Griffin and Rob Felix piked up the last two races last year. The LIMITED SPRINT track record is 17.994 set by Eric Williams in 2007 wich is almost the same track record for the EMOD division.

Probable entires for the 410 Sprint event include MERCER and LERNERVILLE track champ Rod George, SHARON champ JACK SODEMAN JR., all time LERNERVILLE and SHARON SPRINT winner ED LYNCH JR., multi time track champ BOB FELMLEE plus young guns DANNY HOLTGRAVER,CARL BOWSER and others.

Entries for the LIMITED SPRINTS will be multi time winners BRANDON SPITHALER, ROB FELIX, and JIM MORRIS. Others include SHARON rookie of the year ADAM KEKICH, NICK MILLER, and JASON SCOVILLE.

The FASTRAK LATE MODELS and the STOCKS will have the night off to compete elsewhere.
The EMODS will race for $1,000 to win in a point night as well as the MINI STOCKS and the ENDURO STOCKS.

ADULTS GEN ADM WILL BE $15.00 - KIDS 6-12 -$5.00 6 AND UNDER FREE -PITS $25
TRANSPONDERS ARE REQUIRED AND RACECEIVERS ARE RECOMMENED FOR BOTH SPRINT DIVISIONS. PAY WILL BE IN CASH AT THE MAI NTICKET BOOTH AFTER THE RACES.

WPSU'S "DIRT TRACK MEMORIES" DUSTS OFF OLD RACING STORIES

Pennsylvania's dirt track scene still vibrant after all these years

University Park, Pa. (August 25, 2009) – All members of the Perigo family have racecar driving in their blood. They can taste victory in the grit that kicks up on the track. They stick together as a team, with each person assigned a different responsibility. Dirt track racing spans three generations in this family from Somerset County. And they have spent countless hours over the past several decades fine-tuning their skills, and simply tuning up their cars.

For more than 100 years, regular folks have challenged each other on the dusty dirt racetracks in Pennsylvania – to see who can maneuver the turns and accelerate through the straightaways faster than the other drivers. "Dirt Track Memories," a new documentary from Penn State Public Broadcasting, will introduce you to the Perigo family. It will also steer you down memory lane as the drivers approach victory lane.

"I found dirt track to be very exciting not only on the track, but the people involved in it. Most of the racers are families and friends who have been racing for years," Charlie Gudeman, Penn State Public Broadcasting senior producer-director, said. " The fans are also great. They look forward to the racing every week. They are very loyal to the favorite drivers and the tracks."

The show will air on WPSU-TV in the Altoona/Johnstown/State College media market on Tuesday, September 8 at 8 p.m. as part of the September pledge drive. It will re-air several times throughout the fall months. The show will also air on Pennsylvania’s seven other public television stations over the next few months. Check local listings for dates and times.

Back in the old days, racing was much simpler and relatively inexpensive. It also was part of the social life of many small towns. Once or twice a week, the local racetrack would come to life with the sound of roaring engines, the aroma of fuel and rubber, and the competition of dirt track auto racing. The crowds came to root for their favorite car or driver. It may have been a friend or a family member, but no matter who it was, the same passion existed in the stands as on the track and in the pits.

"Dirt Track Memories" features drivers who reminisce about the old days and historians who provide the background of dirt track auto racing in the commonwealth. The program includes lots of vintage footage and interviews with the thrill-seekers who lived to tell the stories!

"The noise, the crowds, the racing teams, and mud flying at you are just part of what makes local Pennsylvania racing so much fun." Gudeman said.

WPSU serves central Pennsylvania with programming, educational services and community outreach. Its public media services produce, acquire and distribute programs that address local interests and reflect the diverse cultural, political, geographic and demographic characteristics of an audience within central Pennsylvania.

Mercer Raceway Park announces blockbuster 9/12/09 event‏

MERCER ANNOUNCES BLOCKBUSTER EVENT FOR SEPTEMBER 12; BIG-BLOCK MODIFIEDS TO JOIN WESTERN PA SPRINT CHAMPIONSHIP ALONG WITH FASTRAK NE LATE MODEL TOURING SERIES
By Mike Leone

August 24, 2009 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Mercer, PA.The region's most historical Sprint Car event is drawing near. The "Western PA Sprint Championship" is returning to Mercer Raceway Park on Saturday, September 12. The event, which already also includes the FASTRAK Northeast Late Model Touring Series, has just gotten even bigger! Mercer Raceway Park is thrilled to announce that the Big-Block Modifieds, whose roots date back to the early coupe days in the 1950s, have been added making this a true blockbuster event featuring the three top classes of cars all on the same night!

"The Western PA Sprint Championship has been a long-standing traditional event at Mercer," described 11th year owner Vicki Emig. "Last year we decided to include a FASTRAK Late Model Touring Series event on this night, but unfortunately the show was rained out. Following on the heels of the successful Bill Emig Memorial and BRP Tour events, we decided to bring the Big-Block Modifieds back once again and include an increased purse event for our Mini Stocks. This event will now take on even more prominence featuring four divisions that have deep roots at Mercer."

The Western PA Sprint Championship dates back to 1966 at Mercer and has seen drivers like Jan Opperman, Kenny Weld, Lynn Paxton, Bobby Allen, Ralph Quarterson, Lou Blaney, Johnny Beaber, Buddy Cochran, Ed Lynch, Jr., and Brian Ellenberger victorious.a who's who of Sprint Car racing. The 1978 event was sanctioned by the World of Outlaws and the 1981 and 1982 shows carried the All Stars sanction.

This year's event will be the richest non-sanctioned race of the season at Mercer with $2,000 on the line. The Sprint Car counts have been very strong all season long averaging nearly a full field and 75 different cars competing this season. Just last Saturday night, Carl Bowser topped a 30-car field for the $1,500 win and another strong contingent will be expected with no other regional Sprint Car races the entire weekend.

What can you say about the Big-Block Modifieds!? The ground-pounders have thrilled fans for over 50 years at The Park with racers like Ralph Quarterson, Lou Blaney, Yip Robinson, Vic George, Ed Schaffer, and many others. Today, Tommy Kristyak carries 105 wins on his resume at Mercer and will be joined by hard chargers Andy Priest and Steve Young, who have 39 and 26 Modified wins respectively. This event will again pay $1,500 for the 25-lap feature and is expected to draw in many regional Big-Block and Small-Block Modified standouts.

The Big-Block Modifieds have put on some tremendous racing in their three events this season with three different winners in Rex King, Jeremiah Shingledecker, and Del Rougeux, Jr. Car counts have been excellent with 36 and 37 at the BRP Tour events respectively and a total of 35 different competitors over the two nights the Bill Emig Memorial was scheduled.

"While the Big-Block Modifieds is the billing, I am confident that our Mercer 358 small blocks can win on any given occasion," stated Emig. "They have fought tooth and nail in all of the big-block events dating back to last season. In fact, they won all three heats on both the Bill Emig Memorial Nights and the B main along with capturing four of the top six spots in the feature. The size of our track is so conducive to good, hard Modified racing at its best."

The FASTRAK Northeast Late Model Touring Series is in its third year of existence and keeps getting stronger and stronger with over 150 competing teams in the region alone. Drivers like David Scott, Mike Blose, Max Blair, Mike Pegher, Jr., Bobby Powell, Gary Knollinger, Tom Snyder, Jr., and others are some of the toughest FASTRAK competitors in the country! They'll all be at Mercer on September 12 along with a bevy of other racers as the 2009 Touring Series slate heads into the homestretch through the month of September before wrapping up three weeks later with Night 1 of the Grand Nationals right back at Mercer. Touring events this season have averaged over 30 cars with seven different winners in 11 events. The 25-lap feature will pay $1,200 to-win.

Not to be outdone, the Mini Stocks will round out this blockbuster program; and rightfully so as their history dates back into the 1970s and their rebirth at Mercer has been strong with 52 different cars competing this season. Fresh off two excellent features with a total of only two cautions and 27 cars competing last Saturday night, the purse has been upped for this event. With the recent announcement of a starting field of up to 30 cars, the 15-lap feature on the 12th will pay down 15 spots with $100 going to the victor.

"I'm so proud of our Mini Stock division," explained Emig. "They are fierce competitors on the track and the best of friends off the track. The camaraderie amongst the group is so evident in the Leland Haylett Memorial. They are a loyal group of racers and this will be their final tune-up before their first ever two complete shows at the Little Guy Nationals two weeks later."

Not to be forgotten is the fact that September 12 will be the final night of points for the Luxaire Heating & Cooling Sprint Cars, 4 Your Car Connection FASTRAK Late Models, and the M&D Paving Mini Stocks as it's just a little more incentive on the line in this classic Mercer Raceway Park event!

The Big-Block Modifieds will fill the void left by the open Stock Cars and Mod Lites that have big events for their divisions during the weekend. The Stock Cars will be competing in their biggest event of the season at Lernerville Speedway as part of their "Autumotive Fest" and the Mod Lites at Merrittville Speedway in the prestigious "Rose Webber Memorial" and also at Lernerville the night before.

"At the beginning of the season these were open dates for both of the divisions," explained Emig. "The Rose Webber ended up moving back a week due to the calendar change and Lernerville had to change the date of their Automotive Fest due to a conflict with their concert. Many of our racers annually compete in these events and felt it was in the best interest of all parties to release these divisions on this night. The previously scheduled Ken Carbone Memorial for the open Stock Cars will now move to the Friday night of the Little Guy Nationals. We know many of you are still awaiting news on some changes to our Little Guy Nationals and that will be released very soon."

This blockbuster event featuring the three top divisions will remain a fan-friendly admission price of just $15 for adults and $35 for a Family Pass!

Understanding the Basics of Racing Insurance

In the quest for cheap car insurance, race car owners and drivers usually come out on the short end of the stick. Insurance companies are in the business of assessing risk and racing has risk written all over it. While the primary goal in any insurance situation for the customer is to find affordable premiums, in a high risk behavior like racing, you also want to make sure that you, your family, and your equipment are adequately protected. This is difficult in the face of multiple policies and overlapping benefits. As a "standard" rule of thumb, two types of basic coverage apply to racing situations, track held policies and driver/owner held policies.

Race sponsors and/or track managers take out policies that cover:

• Injuries to spectators.
• Damage to the track, viewing stands, and other associated buildings.
• Parking lot incidents.
• Some liability for employees other than drivers.

Whether these policies are maintained annually or are taken out per event depends entirely on the size and budget of the given venue.

Owners and drivers must address coverage gaps pertaining to both the vehicle and the driver (if the owner and driver are not the same person.) Multiple policies are generally needed for:

• Storage of the car, privately and at the track.
• Transportation of the car and associated equipment.
• Liability coverage for damage to others cars and injuries to other drivers.
• Medical policy for the driver.
• Potentially medical policies for team members.

Medical coverage will be over and above the given person’s individual health care coverage and intended to augment protection for high risk behavior. Drivers will have to evaluate the overlapping policies that apply to their sport and figure out what benefits are already in place on which they can draw and how those benefits should be strengthened to fit their individual circumstances. For instance, the National Hot Rod Association carries General Participant Accident and Liability coverage for members at national events that includes:

• $15,000 accidental death
• $20,000 accidental dismemberment
• $15,000 excess medical benefits (over any other insurance or self-insurance, federal, state, or other governmental plan or law)
• $400 a week disability payments for 52 weeks

Such benefits must be plugged into calculations of individual health care coverage. Private policies typically carry disclaimers about lowering benefit levels for high-risk behaviors. Drivers should anticipate the need to take out extra "high risk" coverage. Don’t assume basic track coverage will be sufficient.

Due to the large number of variables involved from one situation to the next, insurance companies take these insurance scenarios on on a case-by-case basis. In figuring out their individual need, drivers must consider not just the high cost of medical care, but also benefits to their families in the event of their death or those that will cover living expenses during an extended recovery period.

Above all, plan on working with an insurance professional you trust to walk you through the complexities of these unique coverage situations. Don’t neglect to look at benefits that may be available to you through memberships in given associations and at specific racing venues. Do not rule out additional coverage issued for single events in instances where track policies are insufficient. There is one hard and fast rule, more coverage is always best.

Danny captures 1st win of 2009 at Sharon Speedway!‏

For Immediate Release

410 Sprint Car Driver Danny Holtgraver captured his first checkered flag of the 2009 season at Sharon Speedway on Saturday Night May 2. Starting on the front row with Bob Felmlee usually means racing for second. And it looked that way when the green flag dropped as Felmlee jumped out to an early lead. But a caution slowed the field on lap seven and Danny dove under Felmlee on the restart entering turn one. The powerslide put Holtgraver into the lead for good, as even the lapped traffic was no match for the D4. “We battled through a bunch lapped traffic, held on to it and won the race!” commented Danny with an air of pride and satisfaction. Earlier in the evening, Danny finished second in his heat to former Sharon Track Champion Kevin Schaeffer.

Friday was shaping up to be a promising night with a new look D4 on the wing after last week’s flip at Mercer Raceway Park. But rain poured as the first sprint heat was being pushed off, canceling the event. PA Posse Young Gun Cody Darrah was on hand due to serving a suspension at Williams Grove Speedway and Danny was looking forward to racing against him. “I was looking forward to seeing what he was about, but I guess we’ll all just have to wait until the next time he tows out!”

Sunday Night was the first big sprint show of the year at Tri-City Speedway as $2500 was on the line. Tri-City ran sprints on a weekly basis for years, but dropped them at the beginning of last season. A field of thirty plus hit the big half mile, including All Stars Dale Blaney, Tim Shaffer, Greg Wilson and Brandon Wimmer. Danny finished second in his heat ahead of Greg Wilson. He started eighth in the feature, but spun out mired in the slick middle groove bringing out what would be the only caution in the 30 lap race. He had to tag the back of the field on the restart and was passing cars making his way back to the front when he abruptly pulled off the track and into the infield. A post race inspection by his crew revealed what they suspect is a broken valve.

The Holtgraver D4 is slated for competition at Lernerville Speedway this Friday and at Sharon Speedway this Saturday to defend his Opening Night win!

Heading into this weekend, Danny is currently in fourth in the points at Lernerville Speedway, eight back of points leader Ed Lynch Jr. Danny currently leads the points at Sharon Speedway and is 12th at Mercer Raceway Park, but is not necessarily going to run for points at either track on Saturday Nights. He has one feature win (Sharon), a heat race win (at Mercer), four top fives and five top tens. www.DannyHoltgraver.com will be re-launched in the near future.

As always, Danny would like to thank his family, crew and sponsors for everything they do to keep him on the track and running with the big dogs in the Western Pennsylvania 410 sprint car scene. 2009 sponsors and marketing partners include West View Motors, Ti22 Performance, Alternative Power Sources, Kistler Racing Products, Manno’s Automotive, J&J Auto Racing, Frankland Racing Supply, Butler Built Professional Seat Systems, Terry Key Detailing, Bumper to Bumper Auto Parts, D&T Auto Body, Simpson, VRP Shocks, Agip, Spinneweber Auto Sales and Mel Bagley’s Auto Service Center.

The Dirt on Danny Holtgraver‏

The Dirt on Danny Holtgraver

(April 24-25 Weekend)

By John Jablonski – hotlgraverd4@gmail.com

After a rough start to the 2009 season at East Bay Raceway Park in Florida, Danny Holtgraver started the season at the local tracks (Lernerville & Mercer) with three straight top ten finishes; ninth on Opening Night at Lernerville, second on Opening Night at Mercer, then fourth a week later at Mercer. April 18 at Mercer ended in a mechanical failure in the form of a broken valve.

Last weekend, Danny started with a great run at Lernerville Speedway on Friday Night with a solid and sometimes spectacular run to a fourth place finish. Lernerville’s points started last week, so Danny knew it was time to go when the green flag dropped. He finished third in his heat race, then pulled the 4 pill for the start of the 25 lap feature. Danny ran with the leaders most of the race and made a late race pass of Rod George to second place. Rod took the position back on the next lap, then track champion Kevin Schaeffer passed him on the last lap.

Despite dropping back two spots in the final five laps, Danny’s fourth place finish was his career best at Lernerville. “I like it rough,” he stated referring to the track. “It was pretty cool to pass Rod George late in the race for second, but he passed me right back, then Kevin got me on the last lap. But it’s our best finish at Lernerville so we’re going to build on that!”

Mercer Raceway Park is a place where Danny has found more success. His first career win in a 410 sprint came at MRP in April of 2007; two more wins have followed since (one each at Mercer and Sharon). Win number four was not in cards last weekend at Mercer, however, as Danny didn’t get one lap in before he went for a wild ride courtesy of Chris Shuttleworth.

Of the wreck, Danny stated, “The car’s pretty much junk. We’ll get it back together and be ready to go next week!”

This coming weekend, the recently reconstructed D4 will be towed to Lernerville Speedway on Friday, possibly to Sharon Speedway on Saturday and finally to Franklin, PA on Sunday for the $2500 to win return of sprint cars to Tri-City Speedway.

Heading into this weekend, Danny is currently in fourth in the points at Lernerville Speedway, eight back of points leader Ed Lynch Jr. At Mercer, Danny is seventh in points, just 55 behind leader Rod George. He has a heat race win (at Mercer), three top fives and four top tens. Danny’s website www.DannyHoltgraver.com will be re-launched in the near future.

Danny would like to thank his family, crew and sponsors for everything they do to keep him on the track and running with the big dogs in the Western Pennsylvania 410 sprint car scene. 2009 sponsors and marketing partners include West View Motors, Ti22 Performance, Alternative Power Sources, Kistler Racing Products, Manno’s Automotive, J&J Auto Racing, Frankland Racing Supply, Butler Built Professional Seat Systems, Terry Key Detailing, Bumper to Bumper Auto Parts, D&T Auto Body, Simpson, VRP Shocks, Agip, Spinneweber Auto Sales and Mel Bagley’s Auto Service Center.

There’s plenty for everyone at WRT Speedwerx…

On behalf of the entire team at WRT Speedwerx, I’d like to start out by thanking everyone for their overwhelming support of our groundbreaking endeavor. The positive feedback that we’ve gotten has been incredible, and it’s translating into success for everyone involved. As with any new venture, there are growing pains, and learning experiences, but each new week is proving to be more successful than the previous. The traffic to the novelty stands has grown by leaps and bounds, and the traffic to the website is so overwhelming that we had to upgrade to a dedicated server to handle it all.

With 7 completely stocked albums of photos at Williams Grove, we are working tirelessly to ensure that we have multiple shots of every car that competes. We would like to stress, however, that what you see in the albums is just a fraction of what’s available at http://wrtspeedwerx.com. By purchasing online, you gain access to any photo, in any size, and any quantity and you get them delivered right to your door.

As always, we are constantly looking for new ways to be able to deliver everything that you might need, so look for some exciting announcements in the near future from our team.

FAST Championship Series Week #1 Recap

The Kistler Racing Products FAST Championship Series kicked off on a
windy night at Attica Raceway Park. There were 29 fire-breathing 410
sprint cars ready to do battle for the Kistler Cup on Friday night
before moving down the road to Fremont Speedway on Saturday where 34
cars would collect points toward the FAST Championship.

The surprise of the weekend was seeing a familiar looking white #63
in the pits with Bob Hampshire turning the wrenches. Chad Kemenah was
the pilot of this machine and he took it right to the front of the
A-main on Friday as he led the majority of the race. A late race
caution allowed Brian Smith to get a run on Kemenah when the green
flag dropped and Smith made the last 6 laps of the 30 lapper work for
him as he pulled away from the #63 to net his first 410 victory and
the first ever FAST feature win. Kemenah came home second followed by
Tim Shaffer, Mike Linder, and Brandon Martin.

The Zemco Headers Hard Charger award went to Andy Shammo for passing
7 cars in the main event on his way to a 13th place finish. Cole
Duncan picked up the Hepfner Racing Products Tough Luck award for his
unfortunate crash during his heat race. The GME/Nields Steering Cool
Move of the Race went to Brian Smith for making the winning move on
the last restart, though Kemenah had an awesome move earlier in the
event when he took the lead by threading the needle going 3-wide
coming off turn four.

Mark Keegan picked up the Keizer Wheels B-Main Winner Award, while
Lee Jacobs picked up a Butlerbuilt certificate for being the first
non-transferring car in the B-Main. Brian Smith picked up certificates
from Saldana Racing Products and RacingJunk.com for his FAST feature
win. Kemenah took home the Rod End Supply award for his second place
run. Tim Shaffer picked up an Outerwears Award for third. Mike Linder
netted a DMI Racing Components award for finishing 4th and Brandon
Martin took home the VMAC Racing award for rounding out the Top 5.

Night #2 of the Fremont/Attica Sprint Title Championship Series saw
Tim Shaffer pull into victory lane at Fremont Speedway in a car
wrenched on by Brian Kemenah of Kistler Racing Products - the series
Title Sponsor. Shaffer has been dominant at Fremont Speedway this
season picking up his second win in a row and finding himself on top
of the FAST point standings. Lee Jacobs, who just put his #25 car
together last Saturday in the pits in Fremont, gave Shaffer all he
could handle and made several challenges pulling right up on Shaffer's
bumper in traffic. Jacobs was unable to get a run on Shaffer and
settled for 2nd place with Greg Wilson and Dale Blaney battling side
by side for third behind him. Wilson came home third, followed by
Blaney and Chad Kemenah in the Hampshire #63 rounding out the Top 5.

The Zemco Headers Hard Charger award went to Craig Mintz who started
20th and passed 7 cars to finish 13th. The GME/Nields Cool Move award
went to Caleb Griffith who made a daring last lap move in the B-main
causing him to spin across the finish line. The Hepfner Racing
Products Tough Luck award went to Travis Philo who flipped wildly down
the front stretch during his heat race destroying the car and ending
his night. Rob Chaney picked up the TQ QT award from TQ Fiberglass for
setting the Quick Time in qualifying. Phil Gressman picked up the
B-main win and a Keizer Wheels award, while Caleb Griffith got the
Butlerbuilt award for the first non-transfer car from the B-main.

Tim Shaffer grabbed the Saldana Racing Products and RacingJunk.com
awards for winning the A-main event. Lee Jacobs took home the Rod End
Supply award for second place. Greg Wilson picked up the Outerwears
Pre-Filters award for third. Dale Blaney got the DMI Racing Components
award for fourth place. Chad Kemenah took home the VMAC Racing/BR
Motorsports award for fifth.

After two nights of competition, Tim Shaffer leads the point chase
followed by Chad Kemenah, Greg Wilson, Byron Reed, Cap Henry, Mike
Linder, Brandon Martin, Brian Smith, Brock Mayes, and Lee Jacobs
rounding out the Top 10.

O'Reilly All Star Circuit of Champions Drivers are Making Headlines

Carmargo, IL (4-24-09) By Kelly Brown Director of Public
Relations Even though there has been a pause in the OReilly All
Star Circuit of Champions schedule, that doesnt mean that the
talented drivers of the series are taking the weekend off. Many of
the pilots of America's Series spend their off weekends keeping
themselves sharp for their next All Star event by running races at
weekly tracks or with other notable series. Here is an update of how
the All Stars are doing racing outside of the series, making
headlines and gaining notoriety in the racing world, showing they are
true all stars.

*Dale Blaney*

2008 All Star Champion Dale Blaney already has one notch in his belt
with the All Star Series after winning the Spring Nationals at Attica
Raceway, but that doesnt mean he hasnt excelled at other venues
across his native Ohio. Blaney also has a runner-up finish, which he
earned at the weekly race at Attica the week prior to the All Star
event. Also, just last weekend Blaney placed second in a
non-sanctioned race at Fremont Speedway.

*Ryan Bunton*

2009 Rookie-of-the-Year title contender Ryan Bunton has been running
in the Midwest. Just last weekend the young talent ran with the World
of Outlaws at Paducah International Speedway.

*Daron Clayton*

As the second 2009 Rookie-of-the-Year contender, Daron Clayton has
also been trying his hand at other 410 sprint events. Last weekend
the Missouri native made the trip to Paducah International Speedway
to run with the World of Outlaws and made the feature event.

*Randy Hannagan*

One of the busiest drivers with who is running with the All Star
Series, Randy Hannagan has been running a lot of races this year from
Australia to Arizona to Ohio. One of his most notable finishes came a
few months ago at Thunderbowl Raceway in California. After an off
season that had as many twists and turns as an action film, the
Hurricane over came all the off track adversity to win the World of
Outlaws event. Hannagan has been excelling at many tracks across the
U.S. and beyond, for example just last weekend he finished third at
Paducah International Speedway.

*Ryan Myers*

2008 All Star Rookie-of-the-Year Ryan Meyers has been at text book
All Star in 2009, competing in only Americas Series events.

*Daryn Pittman*

2009 Championship point leader Daryn Pittman has already ran 31
A-Main events so far this season. He also began his season in
Australia, before traveling back state side to compete in the Chili
Bowl in Tulsa, Oklahoma. After a win at EastBay in Florida, Pittman
has been spending the majority of his time running across
Pennsylvania and Ohio. Pittman has recorded multiple top-five
finishes at Port Royal Speedway, Williams Grove Speedway, and Lincoln
Speedway.

*Tim Shaffer *

2009 All Star Championship contender Tim Shaffer has been one of the
most successful drivers on the track in 2009. Holding the second
position in the point standings with the All Stars, Shaffer has also
been winning local events in the past few weekends. Prior to the All
Star race at Attica Raceway, Shaffer won a weekly event at the track.
Then just last weekend the Steel City Outlaw won at Freemont
Speedway in Ohio. In 15 A-main events in 2009, Shaffer has already
collected 7 top-five finishes.

*Danny Smith*

Another driver that has had a very busy 2009 is Danny Smith. He began
his 2009 racing in Australia, collecting three top-five finishes
before moving state side. Since then Smith has been running across
the U.S. at various tracks with various series.

*Greg Wilson *

Greg Wilson started 2009 at the Chili Bowl, but since then he has
been racing a little closer to home. Since spring has made an
appearance in the Mid-West, Wilson has been running at tracks
throughout Ohio. The former All Star Champion has finished in the
top-three every time he has taken the Green Flag at Attica Raceway. A
few weekends ago he also added a second place finish at
LimalandMotorsportsPark to his 2009 racing resume.

*Brandon Wimmer*

Brandon Wimmer may have had a tough race with the All Stars at Attica
Raceway, but last weekend he redeemed himself by charging through the
field at Fremont Speedway. In the main event Wimmer would pick up ten
positions in the first 15 laps. The car lost its handle a little bit,
but Wimmer was able to hold on for an eighth place finish. Wimmer
plans to continue this off weekend warm ups by running at Fremont and
Attica in Ohio, before rejoining the All Stars in Pennsylvania.

Dont miss out on a minute of All Star Racing action when the series
resumes its schedule in Pennsylvania running at Williams Grove
Speedway on May 1st and Lincoln Speedway on May 2nd. For the most up
to date on the All Star Series and its talented drivers stay tuned to

Michael Brothers Race Together‏

MICHAEL BROTHERS TEAMMATES FOR FIRST TIME
Sean and Curt Race Together for Heffner Racing Enterprises

For the first time ever, brothers Sean and Curt Michael will compete as teammates. Curt joins Heffner Racing Enterprises (www.heffnerracing.com) for next week’s All Star Circuit of Champions-sanctioned race at Williams Grove Speedway on Friday, May 1 and the World of Outlaws-sanctioned Thunder in the First State at Delaware International Speedway on Tuesday, May 12.

With two cars on the track, team owner Mike Heffner is optimistic about the team’s chances for victory.

“Both Sean and Curt are excellent drivers and I feel fortunate having both of them running my cars. I get excited just seeing one speeding around the track, I can only imagine how I’ll feel seeing two,” anticipates Heffner.

Sean, Heffner Racing Enterprises’ lead driver, has a total of six championships, 104 career wins (including two All Star Circuit of Champions), and was awarded National Sprint Car Hall of Fame 410 Sprint Car Rookie of the Year for 1998.

Curt, reigning URC champion for the past five years (six championships total), had previously raced 410s for the teams of Mike Bostic, Bill Tanger, and Walt Dyer. He is looking forward to returning to Williams Grove and racing in front of his home state fans in Delaware.

“I’m excited to get back into a 410 and really thankful to Mike and Sean for the opportunity. It means a lot to me that they would allow me race their equipment,” said Curt.

Though looking forward to racing together and even helping each other prepare their respective racecars, the difference in the brothers’ competitive natures should make for a very interesting match-up.

“It’s cool. We’ve raced together in URC. Once you get racing, it’s just another car. I’m sure he feels the same way,” assumes Sean.

Not quite. Though Curt initially echoed that sentiment, when pressed, he admitted that racing against his big brother is not like racing against other drivers.

“It’s a little different. When we see each other, I’m sure we both sit up in the seat a little bit more and try to pass each other just a little bit harder,” says Curt.

“I think Curt will do a good job. He did a great job in 410s before and will do a great job again,” concludes Sean.

(MAUMEE, OH) 4-16-09 by Bryan Autullo - FAST Series Public Relations

Another heavy-weight contender has stepped into the ring to compete for the Kistler Racing Products Fremont/Attica Sprint Title (FAST) in 2009. Lee Jacobs, son of sprint car racing legend Kenny Jacobs, will pilot the Genzman Racing #25 at the 22 scheduled FAST events this season. Lee cut his teeth at these two tracks and has become a force to be reckoned with over the years. The Holmesville, OH native grew up watching his father put up National Sprint Car Hall of Fame stats around Ohio and on the All Star tour over the years and has since been carving out his own successful career. Since 2000, Lee has racked up 7 feature wins, more than 60 Top 5’s and nearly 130 Top 10’s with the majority of those coming at Fremont and Attica. Methanol is in his blood and he will be gunning for the inaugural Kistler Racing Products FAST Kistler Cup.

“I’m excited to be able to run this deal at Fremont and Attica,” said Jacobs. “We’re going to run the FAST schedule with the help of De and Andy Genzman and we’ll have Andy Potter with us turning the wrenches.” Potter has become one of the top mechanics in this area and with Jacobs at the wheel, the combo will be tough to beat week in and week out. “I also want to thank Level Performance, Pro Shocks, Jeanie Butler at Butlerbuilt, Classic Turning, and Goodyear for helping me pull this all together.”

The Fremont/Attica Sprint Title schedule kicks off April 24th & 25th with a deep pool of local talent that is sure to bring some close competition throughout the season. Other drivers expected to run the full FAST schedule at both tracks include Mark Keegan, Byron Reed, Chris Andrews, Craig Mintz, Mike Linder, David Harrison, Brian Smith, Cap Henry, Duane Zablocki, Bruce Robenalt, Travis Philo, Caleb Griffith, Brian Sebetto, Brandon Martin, Brock Mayes, Rob Chaney, Jody Keegan, Cole Duncan, Aaron Middaugh, Jamie Miller, Kevin Lee, Scott Euler, and Craig Keel.

SPRINT CAR GREAT JOHNNY BEABER, SON TONY, ALONG WITH NEW JERSEY’S JEFF TAYLOR & JACK HELGET TO CALL MERCER HOME IN 2009

By Mike Leone

April 8, 2009 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Mercer, PA…When Mercer Raceway Park opened its 2009 Sprint Car campaign last Saturday night, April 4, there was a familiar name in the lineup; that none other than Johnny Beaber. The name alone conjures up many memories for Pennsylvania and Ohio Sprint Car fans.

The Gibsonburg, Ohio native has over 200 career Sprint Car wins all over the Midwest and Northeast. He’s a 26-time Mercer winner including the only World of Outlaw race run at Mercer on June 14, 1978 and was a winner against the All Stars on June 23, 1982. His last win at Mercer came on May 6, 1995.

In 2009, Beaber will be a Mercer regular for the first time since 1994 when Mercer reopened. Beaber will be driving for New Jersey’s Jeff Taylor, who will also compete weekly (#17T) along with his second driver, Jack Helget (#71c). The three-car team will carry sponsorship from C&B Mushrooms, Buckeye Steering and Art’s Radiator. Their Beaberbuilt cars will be powered by Jereco Engines. Joining the trio Saturday will be Johnny’s son Tony in his own car. Tony owns three career non-wing wins at the Lawrenceburg Speedway in Indiana and was the track champion in 2006 driving for Alan Toth.

“It’s truly something special to have Johnny Beaber back at Mercer weekly,” expressed 11th year owner Vicki Emig. “He had a long and rich history at Mercer. Growing up I remember watching him race as I’m sure many other longtime fans do. It’s going to be exciting to see him get re-acclimated behind the wheel. I know he has the talent and desire to rise to the top again. I’ve always been thankful for Jeff Taylor’s support over the years and am thrilled him and his team have decided to call Mercer home in 2009 when there are a lot of other Saturday night venues out there.”

The elder Beaber suffered magneto problems in his debut Saturday night and was credited with 15th. “It was pretty cool to be back out there,” described the driver of the #7B from his Beaberbuilt business Wednesday night. “It was disappointing to have the motor problems all night, but the mag is being checked out now. I just ran a couple laps and pulled it in the feature. We should have it handled for this Saturday night.”

Beaber’s last stint behind the wheel was a short one in 2002 as he drove his son’s car and “Soup” Sabo’s #8s in a handful of races. “Everything is so much faster and a lot tougher today,” described Beaber. “There have always been the good guys, but years ago only so many had good chassis, motors, and tires. It’s different today; everyone has good stuff so the driver can make a difference. There has got to be away to outguess the other drivers. It will be interesting to see how much it has changed as the weeks go on.”

“I’ve never been one to set goals,” revealed Beaber. “If I did, I’d set them low so I could achieve them. I just want to do Jeff (Taylor) right and not let him and my family down. I’ve had a ball over the years and a lot of success at Mercer. The track has been around forever. I can honestly say I do not have a bad memory there.”

While Johnny Beaber is known far and wide around racing circles, his car owner Jeff Taylor is more well-known for his professional football days. The former Chicago, Illinois resident went to the University of Missouri and spent time in the World Football League in 1973 before being drafted by the Washington Redskins. He spent three seasons in DC and also spent some time with the Houston Oilers. Taylor also played in the United States Football League (USFL) and the Canadian Football League (CFL). Taylor’s success came at the tight end position, but also played defensive line and weak side linebacker.

After football, Taylor played in a professional softball league for the Chicago Fire. While traveling the country, his friend convinced him to go to a season ending Sprint Car race in Wisconsin. Taylor was hooked immediately. So much in fact he went to the pits and bought the first car he saw for sale.

Now you’re probably wondering how Taylor and Beaber hooked up. “About six or seven years ago I was in Indiana and saw a Beaberbuilt Silver Crown that was driven by Jack Hewitt,” explained Taylor, who now calls Cherry Hill, New Jersey home. “I ended up acquiring it by trading it for a Sprint Car. The relationship between Johnny and I turned into a business one as I became the Beaberbuilt dealer in New Jersey. Over the winter, I kept messing with him telling him I wanted him to drive one of my cars. He didn’t think I was serious, until one day I showed up with a brand new car, motor, and trailer!”

“Before this transpired, I became really good friend with Jeff and Jack,” said Beaber. “They’re such nice people, so good, and so diplomatic. Jeff has always wanted to this and it’s put a bounce in my step. As you get older, things change, but this has made things really nice. It’s given me ambition and has really motivated me!”

“Racing is a business, but we’re just older guys having fun,” quipped Taylor! “It’s a family deal for them and there’s no pressure on Johnny…it’s not like he’s doing this for a living. In the past I never had the money to do it right, but now I can and it’s the end of all ends. I enjoy it so much, it’s such a blast and I’m having so much fun.”

The Luxaire Heating & Cooling Sprint Cars will join the Approved Toilet Rental Modifieds, 4 Your Car Connection FASTRAK Late Models, Big Daddy’s Speed Center Mod Lites, and the M&D Paving Mini Stocks again this Saturday night, April 11. Race time is 7 p.m.

Mercer Raceway Park is located minutes from both Interstate 79 and 80 just off Route 19 on Fairground Road in Mercer, Pa. Dirt track racing and quality family entertainment are presented weekly late March through early October. The office in New Bedford, Pa. is open year-round Monday through Friday late mornings and after 1:30 p.m. For more information call the office at 724-964-9300 or the track on race day at 724-662-1310. Fremont & Attica take a stand on spec tire rule

by Brian Liskai

FREMONT, Ohio - In an effort to address the costs of racing for sprint car teams at Fremont Speedway and Attica Raceway Park, Hoosier Tire Company is working with the tracks to make changes to the spec tire rule.

Beginning with races in June, only the Hoosier SC-15 and Hoosier SC-25 right rear tires will be required as spec tires at both race tracks. Fremont Speedway Promoter Rich Farmer said the tracks wanted to give race teams and suppliers like Kear's Speed Shop and Kistler Race Products time to cycle through the SC-12s they have remaining in stock.

"After talks with Rex LeJeune (Attica Raceway Park Operations Manager) Attica will follow suit with Fremont Speedway to implement a little harder spec tire rule," said Rich Farmer, Fremont Speedway Promoter. "I want to thank Hoosier Tire for working with us to help the racers. I own a sprint car and I know how expensive it can be to keep rubber on one of these. Hopefully this will help."

Farmer said the tire rules for the sanctioning bodies that visit both tracks will remain.

For more information contact Farmer at 419-307-4241.
