Stewart, Ohio. - Area race track promoters in Southeast Ohio and West Virginia and Hoosier Tire Ohio Valley have joined sprint car drivers from around the Ohio and WV area in forming a new 410 winged sprint car series the Ohio Valley Sprint Car Association (OVSCA). "This series will give the drivers and team owners the option of being able to continue to race on America's most competitive sprint tire." said Hoosier Racing Tire Sprint Product manager Neil Cowman.
Hoosier Tire Ohio Valley racetire product manager Todd Frye said. "It's a huge undertaking but one the industry, promoters and racers are glad to see. In comes down to racing on a competitive tire, product reliability, and safety for the competitors. Many teams and drivers recognize the many years of support and loyalty Hoosier has given the sprint cars and wanted to be able to continue their involvement."
Skyline Speedway owner and Sprint Car team owner Billy Jarrell said, "As a car owner I wanted to go a different route. Many drivers and team owners have expressed the same to me. We wanted an option and I got squarely behind this one. The OVSCA is proud to provide a venue for those racers that choose to compete."
Tentatively, six tracks in Ohio and WV including Ohio Valley Speedway, Tyler County Speedway, I-77 Motorsports Park, Beckley Speedway, and Skyline Speedway will usher in the new series with more expected to get involved as the series grows. Thirty races are expected with Jarrell's Skyline Speedway serving as the anchor track on Friday night.
$15,000 has been raised for the series point fund and sprint track champions at Skyline Speedway will enjoy awards typical of those in the past in addition to the series point fund payout. Details of the points and other series policy will be available on the OVSCA website which is under construction and will be live soon. Until the website is live please visit OVSCA on Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/home.php?#!/group.php?gid=482653310491 .
Concluded Jarrell, "There is a lot of interest from racers and teams and manufacturers involved in the sprint car industry. Several new teams are fielding cars in 2010 creating excitement and demand for the new series. Our hope is this series will be a big boost for sprint car racing in the Ohio Valley and sprint car racing in general."
Season opener and OVSCA opener is scheduled (weather permitting) April 2, 2010 at Skyline Speedway.
